9/3/2011 James J Patton Silver Cup Finals

Speed, make that early speed, was the key to the win in the finals of the 2011 James J Patton Silver Cup. Gs Uncle Henry was the only greyhound in this race with true early speed and that alone was what sealed the deal for this Willis Kennel superstar.

Breaking from the one box, Gs Uncle Henry did what everyone expected him to do, go to the lead, but it is what happened behind him that might have aided him in winning this effort. Race favorite Really Xtreme, who was undefeated heading into the stakes with four qualifying wins in a row, broke poorly and was out of it early on. As Henry continued on the lead thru the turn, Xtreme was bumped back to last and out of contention for the win. Henry continued his torrid pace up the backside and stole three full lengths on the rest of the field to the far turn. Scottish Dreamer had missed the trouble early and was now in full make up mode as they entered the stretch. Closing as fast as she might, Dreamer, narrowed the gap to the leader at the wire, but it was not enough to unseat the champ Henry. Really Xtreme rallied throughout the race and came from well off the pace to secure his spot in the trifecta at the finish line. Finishing fourth and rounding out the money positions was Lk's All In.

Congratulations to Gs Uncle Henry, the Willis Kennel, owners Gary and Sharon Willis, trainer Brandy Willis, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound. After winning this race, and finishing second in the 2011 JGR Puppy Stakes, you better get used to hearing his name. Henry has quite a bright future ahead of him here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
