7/7/2007 James J Patton Marathon Finals

These was a big build up to the first ever finals of the James J Patton Marathon. Sure everyone though Santaís Playgirl was a lock but the race still had to be run. She had breezed thru the qualifying rounds unbeaten and looked to be untouchable over the 770 yard course. But this was the finals! Itís so hard to step up and sweep an event! But the Playgirl made it look easy.

As the announcer bellowed out here comes Rusty, the Playgirl was ready to go. She hit the lid at the break and out rushed fellow early speeder, and next door neighbor, Heavenly Devine for the lead heading thru the first turn. From that point on it just got uglier as she extended her lead from 3 to 5 to 6 full lengths over the field at the finish line. .

Crossing alone might have been enough for the crowd, but she just missed what they wanted to see. A TRACK RECORD. Once again she had come so close but yet so far away. Just .02 off of the course best at the finish line. Either way this was a dominating performance over 770 yard for the queen of the racetrack. .

Letís not forget about the other greyhound that ran behind her though. Heavenly Devine might not have been able to keep up with the champ, but she did rush well enough early to keep the rest of the field at bay for the duration of this race. She was a half a length better than anyone else at the wire and took home the second place prize money. .

Doright Sugar overcome trouble at the 1st turn and drove hard at the end of the race to make a bid for place at the finish line. His kennelmate Sweetsouthern took off from a tough post position and did her best to climb up into the superfecta at the wire in this effort. .

Rounding out the field was Kiowa Two Step in 5th, Ptl Leona in 6th, Tmcís See Ya in 7th and Gottagetitdone in 8th. .

Congratulation goes out to the DQ Williams Kennel, owner Sharon L. Williams, Trainer David Helton and crew, as they get back into the winnerís circle in a stakes finals again. After dominating every stakes for several years this is the first win in a major race for them this year, as To Well With It won last years $50,000 First Coast Classic.
