6/2/2012 JGR Puppy Stakes Finals

When J's Robin broke in at the end of 2011 I think most of us got a sense that she was something special, but I don't think any of us were prepared for the onslaught that she brought to the finals of the 2012 JGR Puppy Stakes Final.

No greyhound in my 15 years at the racetrack has ever put up an effort like she did in this race. I have never seen anything like it and I don't know if I ever will again.

Breaking from a good rail post position, this all out speed monster, seized instant control of this race and from that moment on, her only competition was the clock. Also breaking was the ankle burner Wwk Time Bomb, Easi Mitchie and Secret Papers. This trio chased to the turn, but was already starting to lag behind the dominator on the lead. Heading down the backside she had already put 3 lengths on the rest of the field and it was just going to be a whole lot more before the finish line. With each and every stride she took she drew away from the competition and left them further and further behind her. Try as they might, the chasers could not keep up and drifted further and further off the pace. By the far turn she had 10 on the rest of the field and there was no doubt about who was going to win this race. She put her head down turning for home and gave it everything she had all the way to the finish line. Crossing a country mile ahead of the rest, ok well 14 and a half lengths, she did something that I thought I would never see again. J's Robin set the track record in a stakes final in 30.01 seconds.

Finally the phenom from the DQ Williams Kennel has broken out of the shadows and taking center stage where she belongs. Talk about a great start to 2012, J's Robin has already competed in 3 stakes finals, finishing 3rd in the 2012 Orange Park Derby over 660 yards, finishing 3rd in the 2012 Jacksonville Sprint Classic, and winning the 2012 JGR Puppy Stakes by 14 and a half lengths in a track record time over 30.01 seconds, and she still has another stakes to compete in before the year is out.

Her stats look even more impressive as she has almost never finished out of the money at the bestbet at the Orange Park Kennel Club. In 37 starts on the year she has won 16 times, finished second 10 times, third 5 times, and finished fourth twice. So she has missed the money only 4 times and three of those starts came over 660 yards. So at 550 on the year, she has just missed the money once and it came in a roughed up trip in stakes competition.

Congratulations to the DQ Williams Kennel, Trainer Louis Amaral, Owner Jerry Simons, and everyone else connected with this incredible athlete. We would be amiss too if we forgot to say thank you from all the fans and staff for letting us see this superb greyhound put up these terrific efforts. For the second straight stakes race in a row, the DQ Williams Kennel has not only won, they have set a track record in the finals. Offthebrakedrake did it in the 2012 Jacksonville Sprint Classic with a clocking of 30.04 seconds, and J's Robin just lowered that mark in the finals of the 2012 JGR Puppy Stakes with her run of 30.01 seconds.

Next up for this fantastic greyhound will be the James J Patton Silver Cup which starts at the end of August and competes to the finals on Saturday September 3rd at the bestbet at the Orange Park Kennel Club. Already she has to be the favorite to make the finals and maybe even win the whole thing and that would really be something special.

Already she has done enough to be considered amongst the best in the country right now, and if she keeps it going strong, she should be a shoe in for the elite 8 in the country in 2012.

Once again the bestbet at the Orange Park Kennel Club is blessed to have some of the best greyhounds in the country running here, and J's Robin could just be the next greyhound to add her name to our ever growing list of ALL-AMERICANS in 2012.
