Night of Stars

5/13/2006 Night of Stars Finals

When the box came open it looked like Kay V Tatoo Tony had this race in the bag. He exploded to the early lead and had an easy 3 lengths on this field at the 1st turn. Behind him battling in second was Ryo's Diamond and Sol Magic. To Well With It was close behind them, but was bumped wide and taken out of this race. Dac broke last but saved ground on the rail as he lurked just off the greyhounds in second place down the backside. Tony was looking content on the lead, but Dac moves out to midtrack and just kept on coming in this effort. By the far turn he had already picked up Sol Magic and was nearly past Ryo's Diamond as they entered the stretch. Tony was still ahead in by a length in the stretch, but everyone knew what the outcome would be. Dac turned it on strong near the wire and drive past for the slim win in NOS XVII.

This is the second Stakes win for Dac on the year as he posted a win in the 2006 Orange Park Derby over the 660 Yard course. What is even more impressive is that the Lester Raines Kennel has won 3 stakes races in a row and has a couple of greyhounds doing well in the Orange Park Puppy Stakes as we speak. Can he make it a 4 Peat? I don't know, but you have to give some props to trainer Mike Gerard and his crew as they are on fire right now. The DQ Williams Kennel better take notice and it looks like there might be a new sheriff in town.
