Night of Stars

5/12/2007 Night of Stars Finals

Well the betting public made it into a 2 greyhound race at the Orange Park Kennel Club in Night of Stars XIX, but that was not quite the way that everything turned out.

Everyone was sure it was going to be All-American Kay V Tatoo Tony or the greyhound that just missed in Night of Stars XVIII, Fth Jive Talker, who would be crossing the finish line in front of the rest of the field, but little did they know that the DQ Williams Kennel was going to show it’s dominance in stakes finals once again.

When the box came open the race started as planned. Kay V Tatoo broke well and took the early lead. He was followed closely by Stake Your Claim, Pat C Red Note and Magic Remi, but Fth Jive Talker ran into early trouble and it would cost him in the end.

Tony continued to rush out on the lead to the 1st turn and took a short lead into the backside. Stake Your Claim had drove up closer as Red Note and Remi jockeyed for position. By the far turn Tony’s lead was dwindling and Claim was creeping closer with every step. Remi had run by Red Note at this point and was revving up for a late charge of his own.

Down the stretch they came with Tony still clinging to a late lead and the two closers stalking just waiting for the time to pounce. Half way home it was time to go as Claim went by first and followed by Remi nearer the finish line. Tony once again was denied a stakes victory, but once again he left it all on the racetrack. Pat C Red Note finished off the superfecta in 4th place followed by Fth Jive Talker in 5th, Penrose Brianna in 6th, Barts Lap Dog in 7th and Ptl Junebug in Last.

With this win Stake Your Claim put up 3 wins in a row and 4 in his last 5 efforts. He is always tough from the inside post positions and proved it once again in this effort. For his backers he paid a whopping $22.40 to win and capped off a $123.80 Quiniela.

Owner John Yinger couldn’t have been more proud. He said, “This was my first stakes race win and the biggest thrill that I have had in greyhound ownership.”

Congratulations to Owner John Yinger, Trainer David Helton and all the crew in the DQ Williams Kennel for getting back to winning stakes events on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit.
