2/3/2007 Orange Park Derby Finals

As the betting windows closed just before the running of the 2007 $50,000 Orange Park Derby, everyone though that a B & J greyhound was going to win the race. Well I guess you could say that they were.

Deco Deano had won 3 of the 4 qualifying rounds and looked to be the favorite, but it was the other greyhound owned by Henry Howe that showed up to run in the 11th race.

Craigie Grandy (Craigie Brooker - Greys Starwishes) might not have hit the lid and come out 5 on top in this race, but he did rush up past the few greyhounds that did beat him out of the box and took command of this final round race early on. From that moment on we all knew it was going to be tough to catch him.

You see he has never been caught with the lead and when he gets loose early on, the race is normally over. He won 2 qualifying rounds in similar fashion and in the finals it was just meant to be.

Try as they might the power duo from the DQ Williams barn, Santa’s Playgirl and Do It With Grace, just couldn’t gain ground on Grandy at any stage throughout this race. He was never really clear from the competition though as he maintained a couple of lengths lead for the duration.

Grandy did save his best for the finals as he ran a career best time of 37.59 seconds in this effort. He was followed by Santa’s Playgirl in second, Do It With Grace in third and Scaldedwildebeas finished off the superfecta. Completing the race was Gottagetitdone in 5th, Gain The Win in 6th, Deco Deano in 7th and Kelsos Spitfire in 8th.

Congratulations go out to Owner Henry Howe, Trainer Eric Griffin, Kennel Owners Bill & Cathy Lambert and everyone else connected with the B & J Kennel on this impressive win.
