12/6/2008 Jacksonville Juvenile Finals

Well it was his race to loose, but Count Ivan (Kiowa Sweet Trey - M's Countess Amy) had a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He was the third greyhound in the last three years to reach this final of the Jacksonville Juvenile for the B & J Racing Kennel, and the only won with a chance to go undefeated and win the whole thing. For the kennel, his owner, the crowd and himself, he didn't disappoint.

Granted he didn't take complete control of this race as he was second best from the starting box. Kiowa Spock won that honor with a tremendous break, but no matter how good it was the lead was not going to last that long. Ivan broke well too and had plenty of room to rush the turn on the inside part of the racetrack. He surged closer and closer to Spock as the duo reached the turn together and put on a burst that saw him take over the lead heading down the backside. By the far turn he opened up the lead on Spock to a full 3 lengths, but down the stretch the race was not over just yet. Spock put his head down and took another run at Ivan, but he only could make up a little ground as Ivan easily crossed the winner at the wire. Wsr Dac Attack finished a distance third after colliding with Gs Aleyah in the backstretch. Aleyah was 4th followed by Dirty Picture in 5th, Fenix Fire in 6th, Gs Make Urmove in 7th and Ripstik in 8th.

Congratulations go out to owner Henry Howe, the B & J Racing Kennels, Inc. , Bill & Cathy Lambert and trainer Chris Grieb. For the second straight year they have won this race and to get a greyhound thru all of qualifying and the finals undefeated is a phenomenal task. with this win they sweep the puppy stakes for 2008 too. Phemon, Take It Over, won the $20,000 JGR Puppy Stakes and now Ivan and completed the quiniela.

Bright things lie ahead for this tremendous greyhound has he just turned two a month ago and already has won over half of his lifetime starts. (29/18-3-1-2) With a great rush to the turn, awesome raw speed and some bottom left coming home, he is going to be around a long time winning races here at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
