12/5/2009 Jacksonville Juvenile Finals

No greyhound in the finals had more on the line than Wp's Rainbow. She was not only running for her kennel, B & J, who had won the 4 previous puppy stakes, but there was also a ton of family pride on the line too.

You see Rainbow's mom Icu Greta won this very same stakes event back in 2003 and Rainbow didn't want to let mommy down either. I guess you could say she didn't!

As the box opened up in the stakes final it was race favorite Uss Fine Touch that stormed to the early lead. From previous races that was going to be bad news for the competition, but the race was not over yet. Stalking right behind the leader was Miss Romy and Wp's Rainbow. As the trio rounded the turn, Fine Touch was in command, Rainbow had drove up into second place and Miss Romy was just off in third. The backside is where it really got interesting. From out of nowhere, Rainbow put her head down and just blew by the leader as they approached the far turn. Fine Touch was in shock as she now was chasing for the win instead of racing for the win. Romy also closed up a bit on the lead pack, but as they turned for home, this was a one greyhound race. Rainbow poured it on all the way to the finish line to win by an impressive 5 lengths in a personal best time of 30.37 seconds. Fine Touch settled for place, as Miss Romy was third, and Never Can Tell rounded out the superfecta. The remainder of the field was On The Fly in 5th, Gs Ashlynn in 6th, Never Relinquish in 7th, and Gm's Cashman in 8th.

Congratulation once again to the B & J Kennel, owner Henry Howe, trainer Tom Artzer, and everyone else connected with this fantastic greyhound.

This win marked their 5th puppy stakes title in a row. Yep that's right, 5 straight! Craigie Cool Man, Take It Over, Count Ivan, Fth Keystone Cop, and now Wp's Rainbow. What this also shows is that owner Henry Howe has a fine eye for talent, as he has owned each and every one of those winners.

This combination has been a consistent pathway to success and everyone here at the Orange Park Kennel Club applauds their efforts. Continued success to this dynamic duo and Wp's Rainbow on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit.
