12/10/2011 Jacksonville Juvenile Finals

He might not have been the favorite in the finals, but Snj Black Porter ran like it in this effort. Breaking from the rail post, not really where he wants to be, he came out with the pack, but on the way to the turn is where the race turned for him and the rest of this field.

Porter decided to stay right where he was on the racetrack and that was the best possible move he could have made. As the others around him jockeyed for room in the inside, midtrack, and wide parts of the racetrack, Porter was all alone on the rail and had all kinds of room to rush up into.

By the time the herd had entered the turn, Porter was already in front of them, and like we always say, if the closer is in front, the race is over. That is just what happened the rest of the way in this effort as Porter took command down the backside and maintained his advantage. No greyhound could gain any ground on him at all as he coasted all the way to the finish line for the easy victory in 30.88 seconds.

Chasing the leader throughout were the duo of Lk's Gran Slam and Lk's Merrell. Both greyhounds tried their hardest but they just couldn't overcome the slight trouble they encountered to take a shot at the leader before the finish line. Gran Slam broke slowly and had some traffic heading to the first turn and Merrell got bumped wide in the first turn and had to rally just to get back into contention. Gran Slam took home the place position as Merrell settled for show.

Race favorite Kiowa Fire Fly missed his break, was bumped early, outrushed to the turn, and had to come from last to find a way to get into the money at the finish line. Even though he was not on top of his game in this effort, he still ran a big race just to find a spot in the superfecta.

Rounding out the field was Blazing Hot in fifth, Offthebrakedrake in sixth, Lk's Angelica in seventh, and Jeans Two Face in eighth.

Congratulation head out to the Crowe Kennel, Trainer Mike Crowe, Owners Snj D Dogs, and everyone else connected with this great greyhound. No real upset here as he was in the quiniela in all of the rounds and put his best efforts together in back to back races when he needed them the most. He has been in grade A since start seven and has been a tough out in each and every one of his efforts. His late speed speaks well for him and since the Orange Park Derby is coming up, this stakes winner might just get a shot at the longer distance too.

Here's to continued success for Snj Black Porter throughout his career at the Orange Park Kennel Club.
