Night of Stars

11/3/2007 Night of Stars Finals

Well the Night of Stars is starting to sound like a broken record. The 2006 All-American and 80 race winner Kay V Tatoo Tony just keeps giving his all and no matter how hard he tries, someone else has always proven best.

The 20th edition of the Night of Stars event was no different. Box opens and Tony outrushed everyone to the early lead. His problem was that too many others were too close too soon. Greys Big Show was a close stalking second, with Afleet Alex and Kiowa Wish Frank lurking in the shadows just out of reach.

At the 1st turn, Tony gets a bit of a break as Big Show nudges Alex a step or two wide and his lead gets to lengthen. Frank was blocked during the process and swings out a bit wider and makes Fth Jive Talker to take a different route around the turn. Penrose Brianna collides with Gil's Lampasas and Stake Your Claim is behind the trouble with no where to go.

Down the backside Tony is holding tough with the lead with Big Show and Alex in tow, but the one that is really moving is Kiowa Wish Frank. By the far turn the lead has shrunk considerably and everyone knows that it is going to be a race for the wire.

Big Show is less than a length from the leader and trying to make a move as Tony digs in tough and Frank continues to gain with every step. Half way home, Frank has passed Big Show and sets his eyes on the prize, the leader, Kay V Tatoo Tony.

In the deep stretch Frank's young legs are just too much for the cagey veteran as he takes over command and finished 2 lengths clear of the rest of the field. Second goes to our tragic hero. Yet another valiant effort, but once again the every elusive stakes title is taken from his grasp near the finish line. Greys Big Show holds off the closing Afleet Alex for 3rd as Fth Jive Talker finishes 5th, Penrose Brianna comes in 6th, Stakes Your Claim runs 7th and Gil's Lampasas rounds out the field in 8th.

Congratulations goes out to the Sue Gerard trained James E O'Donnell Kennel for Kiowa Wish Frank's victory in Night of Stars XX. This win was the second stakes title on the year for the puppy as he took top honors in the $20,000 Orange Park Puppy Stakes back in May.

Congratulations also go out to owner and breeder Kay Smith who delivers a one-two knock out punch in this race. Kay V Tatoo Tony, who held on for second tonight, has raced in 5 Night of Stars events and has never missed the money in any of those efforts.
