Night of Stars

11/11/2006 Night of Stars Finals

In the 11th race on the Night of Stars from the Orange Park Kennel Club everyone had their favorites but just like races in the past, this race would provide us with some drama and some upsets.

As the lure moved around the final turn the DQ littermates of Got R Done Seeya and Youíll Like Me were the betting favorites, but as the box opened up they both broke poorly and were left out of contention for the duration of this effort.

So who went to the front? Well the best early speed greyhound at the racetrack of course! Kay V Tatoo Tony who was seeking his 13th win in a row did his part to start this race off in the right direction. By the first turn he has 2 lengths clear of the rest of the pack, but the bad news was that a pair of closers got loose behind him early and two lengths, well thatís just not enough.

Tony continued on in the lead to the far turn and that is where Scaldedwildebeas took over. He bolted by the lead and took command of this effort. Fth Jive Talker was coming as well and by the stretch he took and surpassed the early leader and had his eyes focused on the front and the top spot at the finish line.

Down the stretch Beas maintained a slight margin as Talker was gaining with every step. Pat C Summon never gave up and just kept on coming throughout in this effort, and for Tony, he just kept on moving backwards.

At the finish Beas held on for a slim win, less than a length, as Talker made up some ground and finished a close second. Summon took over for show as Tony survived the stretch run and capped off the superfecta.

Barts Romeo finished 5th after some trouble at the 1st turn and PTL Junebug was 6th after being bumped out of contention at the 1st turn. DQ rounded out the final two spots in the order as Got R Done Seeya and Youíll Like Me finished 7th and 8th.

What is even more impressive about this win is that the Lester Raines Kennel and Walter and Shannon Ray swept both Night of Stars races on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit this meet.

In May Dac (Dominator - Hard Traveler) ran down Kay V Tatoo Tony in the stretch for the win and tonight Scaldedwildebeas (Talentedmrripley - Hard Traveler) ran down Kay V Tatoo Tony on the lead to go on for the win.

Both greyhounds can pay homage to there mother, Hard Traveler, who was a talented racer in her own right here on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit. Her brother Bd Maximillon was a multi-stakes winner that won over 70 races on our circuit, and it looks like the genes continue on in this pair of fine racers. Congrats again to the Walter and Shannon Ray, the Lester Raines Kennel, Trainer Mike Gerard and everyone connected with this fine athlete.
