Converted sprinter Stop Baby Crying, and 660 pro, Pat C Bucko took home wins in round 1 of the 2019 Ironhound Stakes and looked poised to make even more noise in round number 2. This one will be a departure from the rest as we line up over the super-sprint 330-yard course and see which closer has enough early speed to threaten the lead and the win. This is going to be interesting as most of this field are 660 late speed greyhounds, so let’s look closer at the competitors and see just who has a shot to win tonight.
Monday Evening April 1, 2019
Round 2 of the 2019 Iron Hound Stakes – 330 LEG
Race 2 – EMPTY POST in the 5 box – As always that leads to more room for the greyhounds around it and plays right into first round winners Baby Stop Crying. One of only two converted sprinters here, she should be around the lead early and prove best at the wire again in this effort. Making a strong case to win this race will be Ace Cinnamonroll. Another converted sprinter, she draws a great 1 box and that alone is worth the price of admission for this effort. She has the best chance to see the lead, if she breaks, and upset tonight. Dc Feisty Faith also gets some love, even though her best distance is 770 yards. She loves to break from this starting box, and even though it is a much shorter distance, she knows what to do early down the backside from here. If she decides to break, she could be a surprise entry in the money positions at the wire. Arkans Tt Cash is a steady chasing threat that gets a good post away from the traffic tonight in the 8 box. He will have room to rush and run and should stalk the leaders from the get-go to the finish line. (4-1-6-8)
Race 5 – Really tough to pick here as most of the greyhound running well were 660 ones, and the greyhounds showing sprinters lines, don’t really show early speed. So, what will we do??? Go with the hot hand! Pat C Bucko demolished the field with a 9-length box to wire romp in round one and gets a chance to do it again here. The post is away from the crowd, he will get room to rush early, and could break and control this one as well. Even without the front end, I still feel that he will do what needs to be done for the W. Pushing the pace should be the other greyhound that are running tough and around the lead in almost all of their starts. Ww’s Wonderous just missed last time out and has shown some good early speed over 660 yards. That should translate well for another strong effort in this trip. Arkans Speedy is a solid grade A in a good spot that might not be in the lead but should be around the leaders for the quick trip on the oval tonight. She has a good steady pace and could upset if she can get the inside track at the turn. Gs Trixie also gets a notice here as she too likes the inside, should chase early, and be in contention from the start. Don’t know how much of a shot she has to win, but an in the money effort looks like it could easily be attained. (8-7-2-4)
Round number 3, the semi-finals, will run on Saturday evening April 6th at bestbet Jacksonville over the 550-yard course. The top 8-point getters will then move on to the finals on Saturday evening April 13th over the 770-yard course to crown a champion.
