The field has been trimmed down and now just the top 28 greyhound have a chance to move on to the finals of the 2018 bestbet Derby. Loads of talent on tap and loads of points still left on the board. Only one greyhound was a repeat winner, so there are still several chances for them to make their mark on the stakes. Here in the quarter-finals we have some competitive races, so let’s take closer look at them and see if we can start your week off right on Monday evening at bestbet Jacksonville.
Monday evening October 29, 2018 – 3rd Round bestbet Derby
Race 7 – Yet another one box for Ab Smoke Show, so why would the effort be any different? It won’t! She has been tough in back to back starts, including a big time win in round #1. She is a closer and will be coming from off the pace, but the early speeders will be fine for the picking in this effort. Unstoppable late, she finds a way to get it done. If not her then who? Quick Style. Another greyhound with back to back great efforts in the rounds. The post might prove tough, but if she breaks, it really wont matter. She has the tools, and gears late too. Watch out if she gets loose. Others to consider here include the hot off the press winner, Proof Of Concept, from a similar post position, and the steady chasing threat Quick Shot. (1-5-3-6)
Race 9 – No doubt who to take here. Token Phantom is undefeated so far in the stakes and gets back into the one box in this effort. Last time out? The fastest time of the card and a win by 6 lengths! Talk about taking the distance by storm, this guy is the real deal and right now the one to beat in the stakes. Leading early should be Pat C Bitteroot from the outside, but I don’t expect that lead to hold up for the duration of this effort. Great effort in round 2, but short is short, and there are some great closers in this effort. Late the leaders better be wary of Leadin The Crowd tonight. This greyhound has been runner-up twice in the rounds and has come from well off the pace to find the place spot at the wire. Don’t sleep on Amanda Polk either. She found trouble last time out but can dominate if she gets clear early on in any race. She was 2nd in round 1, and shows a big time win 5 races back. Just in case, you have to consider her here. (1-4-8-2)
Race 11 – Another favorite to select, Johnny Camaro. This greyhound is a speed ball that can steal the front end and survive at the wire to score. After a strong 2nd in round 1, he backed that up with a strong win. Look for him to battle for the lead early, find the front end somewhere along the way, and for him to be all revved up in the stretch as he finds a way to the checkered flag. Pressing him throughout will be the well posted Itsafoolsgold. This back to back runner-up chalks up another strong effort in this race. She just missed Johnny last time out and gets another crack at him tonight. Upset minded, let’s she just how she does. Atascocita Kitty is an all-out ankle burner that could just fire out and wire this field on the lead. She was short in her last effort, but that came as she was hit from behind. If she makes the most of the post, she too could take down the man tonight. Mac’s Quinn also gets a notice by me. He has closed well in his last 6 races in a row and she has not missed the money in any of those starts. With a load of greyhounds vying for the lead, this could set up well for her in the stretch. (5-1-3-7)
Race 15 – Hot off a huge win, Arkans TT Cash gets another chance to repeat. After having no where to go in round 1, she made the most of the inside post and put up the fastest trip on the card. She runs best close to the lead and will need to hit the lid again here if she wants to beat this field. Her biggest competitor will be Taking Care Ofme. Why? The post! In the first round she started from the 1 box and put on a show with a big-time win. She will be a factor again in this effort. Jessica Mendoza just missed by a neck last time out and gets another chance to put up a challenge. The post is fine, and she has some late speed too, but like the rest, she needs to be within striking distance early. Last but not least, My Island Time. Another greyhound that almost won in round 2, he can really put on a show when he gets clear on the front end. He too needs to break, and get to the rail, so from the 7 box, he has hurdles tonight.
