Round 2 of the 2018 bestbet Derby is upon us and we get to see yet another great evening of stellar 660-yard racing. All 5 races return with several greyhounds trying to keep their leads, as the vaulted favorites try to make a rebound after a sluggish start in round number 1. There could be fireworks again tonight, so let’s take a closer look as see just who should be racking up the points at the finish line at bestbet Jacksonville.
Friday evening October 26, 2018 – Round 2 of bestbet Derby
Race 7 – Seven Greyhound Race – Not a lot of early speed here so the closer that gets closest early on should be the one to beat. Here I like Amanda Polk. Several things going for her in this effort. She loves it outside, look at that race from the 7 box, and she has enough to be around early and still get up late to take the win. Hot off a strong second, time for the top spot at the wire. Pushing the pace early should be the only early speeder here, Lk’s Just Chilln. Steady try last time out, but she didn’t break well. Here unabated to the lead, watch her threaten to the stretch. Others to consider in the stretch include the empty post next side posted runner Leadin The Crowd, who flew home to round 1 to challenge, and the well posted Proof Of Concept, who must break and be close early if she wants a chance here. (8-6-3-2)
Race 9 – Seven Greyhound Race – Unlike the last race, all of the breakers decided to join this field as we have several that could bomb to the front end here and make everyone catch them before the finish line. I like Pat C Alert in this effort. The most seasoned of the runners, he has been beating the best at the racetrack for some time now. He missed his break last time out but won’t let that happen in back to back efforts. Plus, he gets an empty post next to him, and that will just give him more room early on. Look for a determined winning effort here. Pressing late should be the first-round winner Token Phantom. This is not the one box, but if he breaks it wont matter that much. New to the route, he is thriving, and if he is too close too soon, he could be unstoppable once again. Don’t sleep on the inside part of the racetrack either. Taking Care Ofme also won in round 1, has enough speed to see the lead, and could surprise again here. My Island Time it tough when he is close early on, and the red blanket will aide him in that effort. He too could upset if the planets are aligned early. (4-7-2-1)
Race 11 – Mac’s Quinn has thrived since moving to 660 yards and that will continue on in this effort. This greyhound never gives up and never gives in and keeps on coming at whoever is in the early lead in any race. With no ankle burners around tonight in this race, she will be stalking the front end and drawing away late for the victory. Challenging her will be the out and gone runner Atascocita Kitty. On the lead she can dominate fields and that might just happen in this effort. She has all the tools, she just needs to show up at the start again here if she wants a chance to win. Pat C Hell Bent is liking the move to 660 but has yet to put up a strong effort. A couple of in the money finishes is all he has to show, but tonight could be his chance to shine. He gets a solid post, lets see if he can make the most of it. Jessica Mendoza also gets a notice tonight. Sure, she didn’t fare well last time out, but with a better post, and less speed around her early, she will be in the mix and could be a major force at the finish line. (5-6-8-2)
Race 13 – All revved up and ready to go will be Johnny Camaro in this effort. He was strong second in the first round of the stakes, but that all changes tonight. He has a good outside post, no but early speeders in his way, and he should hit the lights and take a hole shot all the way around the track for the checkered flag at the wire. Pressing him should be the big time first round winner Ab Smoke Show. This greyhound took off late in won by almost 9 lengths at the wire. No doubt she has closing skills, but can she get close enough early on to reel in the leader before the wire? That is the question. With another great rail starting box, I think she will be in the thick of things again late. Also chasing should be the almost always in the money runner Itsafoolsgold and Lk’s Dimingus. Both greyhounds have only missed the money once in their last 6 outings and each and showed that they can keep coming at the leaders late. If either get around clean early, they might be able to move up the finish ladder in this effort. (7-1-8-5)
Race 15 – Capping off the evening, first round winner, Quick Style, looks like a repeater in the making. Here he is posted closer to the rail, he will be close early, and he has loads of gears left in the stretch to use. He might not have it as easy as last time, but he still will find a way to prove best at the finish line. Pressing up top will be probably the converted sprinters Pat C Bagman and Queen Of Queens, but I don’t know if either of them will have enough left late to hold on for the win. Both has fared well over the added distance so far, but neither one has posted a win in any of those effort. Look for them to be a front running threat throughout in this effort. Toodles also should not be overlooked in this race. I know she is up in grade and all, but she has been impressive over the distance, posted up some great time, and gets an ideal starting box in this effort. She is not short at all late and if she gets loose, she could take them all down in this effort. Watch out for her here! (3-5-8-1)
