For round 3 of the 2018 $30,000 bestbet Sprint Classic the field was cut in half, and as the size gets smaller, the action gets larger. Loads of talent still on tap and two greyhounds remain undefeated as we head into the quarter-finals. Can Lester Raines stay hot? Will the top two remain perfect? Will the early speed rule the day, or will the closers have their way at the wire? All these questions and more will be answered on Monday evening July 23rd at bestbet Jacksonville.
Monday evening July 23rd, 2018 – Round 3 of bestbet Sprint Classic
Race 7 – Talk about your battle of the heavyweights? This one is going to be a knock down, drag out, affair if I ever saw one. No doubt the early leader in this race will be Pat C Kudos. This greyhound is a machine from the start, but she pays for it in the end as being short and it will most likely cost her for the first time in the rounds tonight. So far, she is undefeated, but not to fast my friend. Chasing Charlie put up a big effort in his 2nd place finish in round 1 but topped that will a statement making victory by almost 10 lengths in 30.23 in round 2. Late he will just simply be too much for Kudos to hold off and will get the job done in back to back races. You know you must consider Dutch Doreen as she has not missed the trifecta in 6 straight, including 5 quiniela trips, and will have enough early speed to threaten the pace throughout, and newcomer Gs Kandis Lynn has back to back 2nd place efforts in the round and is looking for yet another strong effort from a tough inside box. (4-5-7-2)
Race 9 – Waking up at the right time, Jedi Auntie Pho looks to dominate yet another field of greyhounds in this effort. You know she will not be breaking on top, but neither will her strongest competitor for the win, Lee Blondie, but in the end the closers will take home the top spots at the finish line. The lead should be reserved for the well posted hard trying runner Ww Xavier, but late he will be no match for the power of the all out flying finishers that include Auntie Pho and Blondie. Both greyhounds won in round 2 and each and the skill set to take home the win at the wire. Pho will be closer at the start of the race and that should give her an advantage as she will not have as much ground, or traffic, to deal with in this effort. No doubt Blondie will make her presence know in the stretch, and if these two lock up coming home with some clean air up front, it could be an instant classic. Don’t sleep on Lk’s Mudcat either. You never know what you are going to get from him, but when he is on, he is on. Just check out that last race, won by almost 10 in 30.54, that is something special. He will need to break to be effective again tonight. (4-3-2-8)
Race 11 – Post position makes a winner once again in the rounds. Atascocita Kitty won in round 1 from this very same post and just missed last time out by a nose at the wire. She is purring sweet in the stakes and should continue the red hot running in this one tonight. She has everything going in her favor, she just need to keep up the desire to wire. It might be a tough nut to crack though as the back to back winner in the rounds, Kentucky Rich, is posted well outside and could have something to say about who is scoring the W at the wire. He has great early speed and should be unabated to the front end from this great starting box. He can be short late on occasion and will need his best effort to keep the streak alive in this effort. There are not the only greyhounds who have a shot at taking home the 19 points in this race. Js Range Rover was a first round winner that has not missed the quiniela in 4 straight trips and Flyin Kryptonite is always around the lead in his race and has been in the money in 5 of his last 6 efforts. Several have a chance at the lead and the win. Let’s just see who is up to the task of taking home the top spot at the wire in this effort. (1-7-3-4)
Race 12 – This race is a wide open one where several greyhounds have a shot at taking home the top spot and the much-needed points at the finish line. When in doubt, go with the greyhound that has the most things going for him… Dc Midnite Rider has been re hot in the rounds, is a solid grade A competitor, has a great starting box, enough early to be close, and is not short at the end of the race either. Look he has won a round and missed by a head in winning another. That is good enough for me. Look for a close break, for him to be a force throughout and for him to get it done at the finish line. Getting back on track, L’s Sum Dog, came from well off the pace to round up 2nd in his last effort. This greyhound is as fast as he wants to be, when he wants to be, and can run down almost anyone at the racetrack if the mood suits him. A winner of a couple smaller stakes, the greyhounds is a threat every time he straps on a muzzle. Look for another from late run, and for him to challenge once again in this effort. Early Jack’s Atwitzend might just have the lead and might be the one to catch and beat home in this effort, especially from the one box that he is starting from. Forget the race where he had no where to go and you get 4 straight in the money efforts with a pair of wins. He will be out fast tonight and looking for the upset in this effort. Dutch Mustang might not be setting the world on fire as of late, but he has been consistently in the money in the round and that trend continues in this effort. (2-8-1-4)
