Speed, early speed that is, was the key to success in the 3rd round of the 2018 $30,000 bestbet Sprint Classic. Three of the winners on the card came in box to wire efforts, while the other was a threat throughout that got up at the finish line. Talent was also another big contributor for the winners as three of the found on the card won their second round of the stakes in this effort.
The most impressive trip of the evening came in the 12th race on the card as Dc Midnite Rider really kicked it into high gear from the start. Breaking from the 2 box, he was out in the lead at the break and never, ever, looked back. He pounded down the frontstretch and took a full 3 lengths over the nearest competitor at the turn and stretched those numbers down the backside. But the far turn he was 4 lengths clear and he coasted to the wire to win by 2.5 lengths in a cards best time of 30.59 seconds. Second was the late flying L’s Sum Dog, who might not have caught up at the wire, but did gain ground on the leader and easily placed at the finish line. Blackout Sami was an even 3rd as Dutch Mustang gradually gained throughout to take home the last spot in the superfecta.
Arguably maybe a better effort came in the 10th race from Ww Xavier. The time was almost the same, the effort was just a good, and he got it done over two of the best closers at the racetrack. Breaking from the 2 box, Xavier hit the lid and was in instant command of this race. Surging down the frontstretch, he made the most of the clear air up front and stole 2 lengths on the competition. Breezing along on the lead he maintained that margin to the far turn and increased it coming home to the turn of 3.5 lengths at the wire in 30.64 seconds. Behind him was the real story. Phenom Jedi Auntie pho cleared close but couldn’t mount a charge at all on the leader. Running and even race for place, she managed to hold off the late flying Lee Blondie for place at the finish line. Early threat Reble Smither was in the conversation from the start but was outclosed late by Blondie and had to settle for 4th.
The other early speed winner came in the 11th race as Flyin Kryptonite made the most of the post and used the extra room around the 4 box to get the lead and the win in this effort. Bombing from the starting box, Kryptonite rumbled down the frontstretch to the turn and took a 2-length lead as they left and headed down the backside. Prancing along, he was easily in control and kept the same distance over his rivals all the was to the stretch. There he didn’t let up the pace and took home the solid victory on the front end by 2.5 lengths in a 30.78 second clocking. The strong chasing Js Ranger Rover was pushing the pace throughout and was in contention all the way to the finish line for place. Gillian Turner advanced a position with every call and settled for 3rd, as early threat Pat C Cozy drifted back late and completed the superfecta at the wire.
Last but not least was the back to back winner in the 7th race on the card, Chasing Charlie. Charlie put up a gem in round number 2 and followed that up with another strong effort in round 3. Here he did not make the early lead, but he might as well have. Ankle burner Dutch Doreen finally got out of the box like she can and took total control of the race headed to the turn. That was about the extent of her good news as that lead did not last. Charlie might have been two lengths behind at the turn, but he quickly closed that gap to just a nose at the far turn, and down the stretch, the leader was no match for the determined driver. Charlie bolted by the leader late and left her in his lurch as he crossed 2.5 lengths better than Doreen at the finish line in 30.80 seconds. A good race for her to the stretch. Doreen did all she could on this occasion, but tonight it just was only good enough for 2nd place. Takin N Interest came from well off the pace to get into the conversation for place at the finish line as early threat Pat C Kudos was outgamed late for show, by Interest, and had to settle for 4th at the wire.
