Two Remain Undefeated

Two rounds of the 2018 bestbet Puppy Stakes are in the book and two different greyhounds have escaped to the quarterfinals without a blemish on their records. No doubt you have hear of the first greyhound, Jedi Auntie Pho, you know, perfect in her career so far, 8 wins in 8 starts, and the last two among stakes competition. She is the real deal and put up the race of the evening in the 2nd on the car for Friday night. Breaking on top, yes you did not read that wrong, she went straight to the lead and lever looked back. Breezing around the racetrack, she increased her margin with every step and finished 6 lengths ahead of the always chasing Kc’s Rich by 6.5 lengths in a blistering time of 30.30 seconds.

Craigie Zuri was the other undefeated greyhound to move onto round 3. Her task was a bit more daunting and might have even been a tougher row to hoe than Pho’s. Outbreaking the ankle burner, Lk’s Black Gold, Zuri took command of this race from the start. She would never be alone, but to her credit she gave a determined effort and turned up the challenger at every turn. Try as she might, Lk’s Black Gold couldn’t gain on the leader but made it interesting throughout. Zuri scored at the wire by a length and a half in a speedy 30.46 clocking.

The Lester Raines kennel won another race on the car beside Zuri’s, and it came in the very night one. Breaking close in the 11th race on the card, Dc Thunder Dog outrushed everyone to strong lead at the first turn and coasted all the way to the wire in front for the easy win. Always 4 lengths better than the rest, Thunder Dog stopped the clock at 30.71 seconds, which was 4 lengths better than the chaser Cp’s Bee Bruce at the finish line.

The Lashmet kennel was back to there old tricks as well with a pair of victories in the 9 stakes events on the card. Even though they came in separate races, their winners gave similar efforts. Both dashed off early and held on late, one just a bit more comfortable than the other. In the 9th race Lk’s Berry Frost was first from the box, first to the turn, first to the far turn, and first at the wire for the win. Stealing 2 lengths early was the key to her success as Marty Kaan was flying up late to challenge but was a length short at the wire. She won in 30.82 seconds. Jack’s Atwitzend didn’t outbreak everyone but did outrush them to the lead where he found herself 2 lengths clear of the rest at the turn. She would need every inch of that margin as Doug Guggenheim would chip away throughout and close it up to a length at the far turn and a neck at the wire. Atwitzend won in 30.81 seconds.

Other winners included Pat C Alert in the 4th race, who beat the box, took the lead, increased his margin to the wire, as he dominated the field by 5.5 at the wire in 30.52 seconds over rival Kentucky Rich. Lnt Joker proved best in the 15th after a long battle up front with the early speeder Saber Crush. Crush stole 2 lengths early but was caught by the far turn and the duo necked it out the whole lengths of the stretch where Joker won the photo by yet another neck in 30.56 seconds. Jw Concepcion surprised in the 12th race at 20-1 with a determined stalking, chasing, overtaking effort for the win. Super sprinter, Iron Hearted bolted to a 3-length lead, but was reeled in throughout and surrendered in the stretch to Concepcion in the deep stretch by a length in 30.69 seconds. Finally, was Gs Conan. Another longshot winner, Conan followed suit as Jack’s Mizz Tutu was the early lead, took a couple of lengths early, saw that lead dwindle, and Conan came home with a rush late to seize the win in the 5th race by 2.5 lengths in 30.73 seconds.

Third round action takes place on Monday evening May 21st at bestbet Jacksonville. The field will be trimmed down to 5 races for the quarter-finals.
