Jimmy Double Dip

Winning one stakes race is hard, winning two is even harder, but try doing it on the same performance. That is exactly what the Jim Blanchard Kennel did in the first final of the 2018 Redo Race. Not only did they take home the double dip awards, they did it over 2 different distances. One winner over 660 in the 9th and another over 550 in the 11th.

The break really set the tone for the 9th race on the card for Saturday evening April 28th at bestbet Jacksonville. This was the first stakes final of the 2018 Redo Race over 660 yards, and Critics Choice came to run from the start. Hitting the lid, she took a slim early lead over the rest of the chasers, but she was not alone, and she needed to be if she was going to hold on and win. L’s Princess Ry and Ww Outlaw Kate were nipping at her heels down the frontstrecth and as the race wore on, they where overtaking her before the finish. Choice held strong to the backside, but then she gave up the front end to Princess Ry. Ry never looked back from that point on and raced off with the lead all the way to the wire for her first win over 660 yards at the racetrack. Ww Outlaw Kate took longer to find her way by the early leader but managed to take Choice down in the final few steps to steal away the place spot at the finish line. Choice had to settle for third as the slow breaking late closing threat Craigie Javier came flying up to challenge and ended up completing the superfecta at the finish line.

The 11th race was more of the same as the early speeder broke, Lk’s Black Gold, and the flying closer, L’s Sum Dog, overtook her before the wire. Breaking slow, Black Gold, made up for it on the way to the first turn. She outrushed everyone to the lead but was not front enough early on. She was pressed by the other early speed greyhounds, Cp’s Nauset Flo and Mac’s Kelly, and even drew away from them a bit more down the backside. By the far turn, L’s Sum Dog was on a mission. He had already picked off a couple of greyhounds in front of him and was a charging third as they turned for home. Black Gold dug in deep with everything she had and Nauset Flo was pressing with all her might, but in the end, neither was able to hold off L’s Sum Dog at the wire. Exploding by late, L’s Sum Dog wins yet another small stakes at bestbet Jacksonville and proves once again that he is as fast as he wants to be on the racetrack. Another early lead heartbreak for Lk’s Black Gold in a stake final as she just can’t seem to get to the wire for the win. Race prompter Cp’s Nauset Flo was a close third followed by early threat Mac’s Kelly in 4th.

Congratulations head out to the Blanchard Kennel for back to back wins in the Redo Stakes races. Kudos to Trainer Mark Blair for getting them ready and to owner Kenneth LeFebvre for wins out of both L’s Princess Ry, and L’s Sum Dog in the finals.

Don’t forget we will run them back from the same posts on Saturday Evening May 5th in the 9th and 11th races on the card. If you missed the money once, try again and see if you can pick a winner. Will they repeat, or will someone else show up? We will soon see!
