Everyone is ready for the second round of the 2018 $75,000 James J Patton Silver Cup. All nine races return as each and every greyhound will be jockeying for position to try and take home a win, and some points, so that they can move on in the stakes. The Pat Collins Kennel, the Ocala Kennel, and the Blanchard Kennel all won 2 of the races in round number one. Will they stay hot again? Or, will someone else take over? All questions to be answered on Friday evening at bestbet Jacksonville. Let’s take a closer look here and see if we can kick the weekend off right with some winners!
Friday evening February 23, 2018
Round 2 of the 2018 $75,000 James J Patton Silver Cup
Race 3 – Veteran status wins this race, well post position helps too, as stakes winner Hey Hey Daddy finally gets a clean trip. I know she is getting longer in the tooth, but she still has the skills to dominate this field. Her biggest challenge will be the 8 times stakes favorite, and Ironhound winner, Boc’s Queen Lady from a great rail starting box. Late there will be others joining the party as Dutch Dalton looks to improve on his 4th place finish, and Rt Spicy Praline might just be caliente at the wire! (8-1-4-2)
Race 4 – In a wide-open race I like the pure puppy that is Se’s Joe K. Rough trip for Joe in round 1 and this time out I expect him to rebound nicely. He has good raw speed and will be in the conversation early on. He has enough left late and will do what needs to be done to win. Solid A Luck of the Pup could also come home a winner, as he has performed well from the 1 box in the past. Sofia Lugo is tough when close, so a big break will be needed for her to contend, and don’t forget about She Aint In It who has a 10-length win showing from an outside post position. (2-1-3-6)
Race 5 – Early speed will be in full effect in this race, and the best is Lk’s Black Gold. Rested and ready to go, this greyhound can fly from the box and is tough to take off the lead late as well. Posted well on the rail side of the racetrack, expect to see back to back box to wire wins. Chasing the pace should be the middle of the racetrack. Puppy Se’s Fast Franny needs to find her break again, but if she does, she will factor till late. Veteran Gs Humongous and newcomer For The Birds will be in the mix as well as both have not missed the money in 6 straight races at bestbet. (2-5-4-6)
Race 7 – The favorite to win the whole thing gets another chance at stardom, but he will have to work hard if he wants to win back to back races against this talented field. Fix A Drink is probably the best sprinter at the racetrack right now, and he gets an 8 box to boot! He loves it outside and will try and duplicate his 8-length win in round number 1. Trying to ruin his plans will be first round winner, and ankle burner supreme, Speedo Tuxedo, along with the late flying threat Cal Smith and the early try holding on in the mix runner Locomylegacy. (8-6-3-4)
Race 9 – Another wide-open race where anyone has a shot at the W. Taking a flyer in this effort with Vicki Of Ruckus. After a rough start to round 1, she rallied well and still made it back into the money. This pup has gears to burn and just needs to get loose early on. No speed around her here, I expect a big effort. Veteran Boc’s Andross is a solid grade A that will push the pace early on and factor with the leaders for the duration of this race. If she decides to go, she too could take home a win. Watch out for the late closing Dutch Casey at the wide and the post might give Dc Midnite Rider a shot too. (2-5-4-8)
Race 10 – Hard to pick against a greyhound with 4 wins in a row, so I won’t! Ww Whatsapp is getting stronger with every start and posted up the most impressive win in round 1 with a 10 lengths victory. Early speed has been his friend, and he will need it again if he hopes to continue the streak in this effort. He will be pressed early and often as Pat C Alex, who just missed in round 1, will be a strong force throughout tonight. Jz’s Bullet looked to round back into form in round 1 and could threaten, along with the returning pup Tmc’s Lowe Jack, who is better than his last 2 efforts show. (5-7-4-3)
Race 11 – Trying to remember how to break in sprints, the 2018 Orange Park Derby Winner, needs a better start to win over the shorter distance. Working for him is the post, he loves it outside, but working against him is the talented field. For sure he will have to catch Pat C Hash Tag if he wants to win. Hash Tag is a great breaker, in a great post, and should be the one to catch on the lead. Also coming from off the pace and challenging will be the former track record holder, Kmz Kraken, along with the rising star Km Draintheswamp. (8-2-5-3)
Race 12 – Yet another strong field of greyhound to contend with. Once again speed is the key and no one is better than Midnight Loot. Just missing last time out, she was a factor from the start to the finish, and even though the closers will be coming hard late, I think she steals enough to hold on. Speaking of closers, converted router, Craigie Avatar was a head short in round 1 and will give another great late drive from a coveted 8 box. All-American Real Good Feelin is still searching for win number 98 on the career, and it is bound to happen sooner or later. Also, don’t discount Bgr Benny Da Jet. Hot off a win in round 1, he could threaten again from another inside post position.
Race 15 – Tough race here, but heart plays a role too. L’s Sum Dog is as fast as he wants to be. Coming off a rest he looked really sharp, and unstoppable, late in his round 1 win. The 1 box might not be his best spot, but he will find a way to get a win. Giving another all-out effort will be first round winner, Jedi Texas Acre. This closer is a threat, and even tougher when he breaks. Red hot since returning, he too could find a path to victory. Pushing the pace should be the all out early speeder Mac’s Kelly. She took the lead to the stretch and got run down late, similar fate tonight. Don’t overlook Pat C Typhoo either. A head short late time out, he is tough when close early, so he must break to succeed in this one. (1-4-7-5)
The third round of the 2018 $75,000 James J Patton Silver Cup will run on Monday February 26th at bestbet Jacksonville. The field will be trimmed down to 5 races, as only the best move on toward the finals. Don’t miss out!
