The second round of the 2017 $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup is upon us. The favorites didn’t show up that well in round one, and will be looking to get back on track and stealing away some points in round two. Every one of those is important as the field will be cut in half for the quarter-finals. Let’s take a closer look at the races for Friday evening and see if we can get you cashing some tickets this weekend at bestbet Jacksonville.
2nd Round of 2017 $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup
Friday evening February 24th, 2017
Race 7 – Post makes perfect in this race as Flying Rose is the only greyhound that drew inside of Ww’s Quick Brady. Brady is a strong early breaker that will go very wide at the start of the race. He will give all kinds of room to run to Flying Rose and that will be the difference maker tonight. Rose loves the rail, gets the rail, and her break will return in this effort. Look for her to battle throughout on the lead with Brady, but they are not the only ones with chances to win. Former puppy stakes winner, Pat C Outbounds, is outside once again and will be making up ground late on the leader tonight. Don’t forget about the multi-stakes finalist Ww’s Sammy either. A good inside post for her here, but she is right next door to Brady and could find trouble all the way to the turn. If she can outbreak him, you never know. (1-2-8-3)
Race 9 – Easi Charlie just missed in round 1 and will do everything in his power to not be denied at the wire again this time out. This semi-closer will be coming from off the pace again in this effort as he must try to catch the early speeders late to accomplish his goal. No doubt that Kiowa Pinot Noir will be firing out fast and setting the pace in this race, but how long can he last on the front end. He will be pushed by fellow breaker, and impressive youngster, Bgr Yosemite Sam, who has not missed the money in 6 straight trips. Another greyhound to keep an eye out for is Ww’s Marsala. Closing fast in her last effort, she was a just a length off the W in third. Tonight, from the same post, expect another strong late charging effort. (5-1-4-3)
Race 10 – Tough race here with 3 first round winners looking to show that round 1 wasn’t a fluke. Kc’s Todd is rested and ready to go and gets the best starting box in the bunch. He combination of break and staying power will be the difference once again tonight. Running hot off of back to back wins, the hat-trick will be well deserved in this one. Pressuring him late will be the closing duo of Pat C Gangsta and Ww’s Epic. Both greyhound have the tools to score a victory tonight, but each must put up another strong start to have a chance to get it done. If Todd comes to run early, their battle will be for place. Don’t sleep on Wiki Jax Attack either. This greyhound is well posted, can close a bit in any race, and has been in the money in 5 of his last 6 efforts. A big break and a route to the rail early is needed if he hopes to contend. (2-1-4-8)
Race 11 – Another posted greyhound gets the nod in the 11th. Flying Riverwood has some good early speed, likes the post, will get room early as her neighbor heads inside early, and could wire this field on the front end. Granted she can be short on occasion, and might be again with this talented field bearing down on her in the stretch, but I think she steals enough early to survive at the wire for the win. Reeling in the leader late should be the stakes vet Boc’s Andross along with the 660 monster Lk’s Centuria. Andross just missed by a nose in round 1 and hope that she can get there before the wire tonight. Centuria is not as good in sprints as she is over 660, but she will love the 1 box and come on strong late to challenge tonight. Here you also must consider Gs Mad Mudder. Didn’t break or run well in round 1, but it hard to ignore the 3 wins in 6 races in box to wire fashion. If he decides to show up at the break, they might all be caught off guard and beat in this effort. (8-3-1-4)
Race 12 – Might just be the toughest race on the card. I know there is only one winner from round 1 here, but 6 of the 8 finished in the top 3 spots in their respective races in the first round. All of them were in contention for the win, and even the greyhounds that didn’t run well, are far better than that last effort shows. This is one TOUGH race! But you must pick someone, so I go with the best greyhound here, Real Good Feelin. Feeling can beat you with or without the lead and make it look way to easy in the process. Here she will most likely have to come from just off the pace again, Ln Sugar and Pat C Cozy will both be challenging for the early lead and control of this race. Both could wire the field on the front end, but I think that Feelin will have just too much for either of them in the stretch. If they want to upset, they will need help behind them. Our other choice, Lee Raven. Sure, she finished out of the cash in round 1, but that came because of double trouble in her race. She is far better than that 5th place finish and could take them all down tonight. If she gets loose from a good post, Watch out! (3-6-4-7)
Race 13 – The fastest of the fast in round 1 gets the one box in this effort and that should be enough to put him over the top once again. Ln Michaels has been on a tear since arriving at bestbet and he is keeping that up in the rounds. With 3 wins in 6 races, and 6 straight in the trifecta, he is going to be tough to beat here. Out well early, he will take over early and control this race throughout. Pushing the leader should be the solid grade A, Kanes Mini, who also has 6 races in a row in the money, and the hot and cold running first round winner Pat C Ramlin. Don’t forget about the rising threat Kali Of Ruckus. Sure, she might be over her pay grade, but don’t tell her that. She has been putting up some stellar trips and looks to make amends for the wheels coming off in round number 1. (1-3-2-8)
Race 14 – Another posted greyhound gets a shot at the W he missed out on in round 1. Js Armdndangerus is an extreme talent that has been tearing up the grade A fields recently for the Lester Raines Kennel. Here the post has improved and I expect the break to improve as well. Out early, he will not be touched late once his nose is in front. Look for a big-time effort here in round two. Trying to make him work for the early lead will be the strong breaker Ln Double Stuff, but late he will be no match for the rest of the greyhounds in this field. What Dangerus really must be concerned with are the closers. Boc’s Queen Lady is a solid grade A that can make up ground with the best of them in the stretch, and next door neighbor Kc’s Waltrip can draft on the rail and might just find a way to slingshot home to try and steal away the checkered flag at the wire. Both will need big trips to get it done, but it is not out of the question tonight. (2-7-6-1)
Race 15 – A tight finish is what this race could come down to. We have some tremendous talent in this effort on the front end, and one closer that might just run them all down at the finish line. If it all plays out as planned, the former stakes winner might just get caught by the track record holder at the finish. No doubt that Godzilla Who will make the most of the red blanket again in this effort. You know he is going to break, and he will hold strong if no one gets to him before the stretch. He will be pressed throughout by the former puppy stakes winner Pullanallnighter, and the ankle burner Ww’s Lost Girl, but no lead, no matter how big, may be safe in this effort. Track record holder Kmz Kraken can come from off the tailgate and get to anyone if she wants to. She is as fast as she wants to be and just missed in round 1 after breaking last in her heat. If she clears in the conversation of the rest at the start of this effort, she will easily take home the W at the wire. All in all, this will be an exciting race to watch, wager, and win on. (1-5-7-3)
