The first round is in the books and the longshots were the winners over and over again. Friday evening at bestbet Jacksonville we get round 2 of the 2016 bestbet Puppy Stakes, and we will see if some favorites can wake up and start winning races. Loads of talent is on tap, but there is really no standout amongst the competitors. It will all come down to who wants it more, and we will see just who moves on to the quarter-finals after Friday evening.

Let’s take a closer look at the races and see just who should be in the running for the points in the second round of action.

2nd round of the 2016 bestbet Puppy Stakes

Race 1 – Tough to pick against the first round winner, especially when he gets a similar post, so I won’t. Craigie Coldshot has some good early speed and has proven tough on top so far in his young career. Against this talented field, he needs a big break to score back to back wins. Looking to make amends in this race will be a trio of talented greyhounds. Rested and ready super pup Atascocita Sully just needs a clean trip to have a shot, and the ultra-fast Cbj Willow could upset them all if she gets loose early on. Don’t overlook Ww Outlawlaverne either. With a big break she could be a threat to the wire as well. (7-4-8-6)

Race 2 – Raiders Rossi ran a huge effort in round 1 to score in the final few strides. Here he gets another great inside post and we all should expect more of the same. This solid grade A will do what needs to be done to get up and take home the win again tonight. Pushing the pace should be the rising star Ww’s Holy Grail. This pup is quick at the start and gets a good post to rush from here on the outside. He is short late though and it will cost him again at the wire. Others to consider include The solid grade A who has been in the money in 6 straight races, Kanes Hollywood, and Gs Hal who is coming off a huge effort where he lost by a nose in round number 1. (2-8-5-3)

Race 4 – Time for the cream to rise to the top. Gs Ashley missed by a head last time out and is the only grade A in this entire race. No real other contenders here and I expect her to show off he talents and makes the post of this good outside post position. A dual threat from on or off the early lead, she will be poised to get the big time W at the wire tonight. Trying to ruin her day will be the likes of the big upside greyhound Flick Ofa Switch, the ideally posted threat Pj For Real, and the better than her lines show runner that is Kanes Bubba. (7-4-1-3)

Race 7 – Loads of closers in this race, so it might come down to just who gets out of the box the best amongst them in this effort. Miss Margie just missed last time out and has had good success in the past from the railest of post positions, the 1 box. She has gears late, but breaking from the inside boxes well is what gets her the nod in this highly contested effort. Solid grade A Pat C Dashboard should be in the mix as well. Winning is not his forte, but stalking and running are. He will factor throughout again tonight. Speaking of closing. No better closer at the racetrack than Raiders Bacardi. He can come on over all 3 distances, and he looked really sharp in round 1 over 550. No doubt he will be flying up late again. You can’t forget about Lee Shep either tonight. Coming from well off the pace last time out, he finds the super late again in this effort. (1-8-6-4)

Race 9 – Speed was the key to Kc’sTammy J’s success in round 1 and it very well could be again in this effort. Only one greyhound can go to the turn with her, Gs Jasper, and he is short late and lacks the staying power to challenge her all the way to the wire. She should open up some lengths on this field early on, but she will need all of them late if she wants to hold off a couple of the closers and take home back to back jacks. She has the posted to get it done as well. I think its box to wire time! Pushing her in the stretch should be fellow posted up grade A Mr Winston. A strong second last time out from this same post should give him an edge here. Previously mentioned Gs Jasper should prompt the pace to the stretch, and Pat C Funkie should close some late and find the final spot in the money at the wire. (4-2-5-8)

Race 10 – It’s all about the post in this effort. Loads of good greyhounds here, including some first round winners, but I like the greyhound that doesn’t have to move to run. Pat C Zip Code is a monster from the red box and gets it here. Breaking close is all this grade A greyhound has to do and once in front, he is ultra-tough to beat. He can do it from off the pace as well and should find a way to take home the top spot at the wire. Trying to put a monkey wrench in his plans will be first round winners Rams Big Dan T and Maxwell, along with the solid closing threat that is Atascocita Danty. (1-3-8-7)

Race 11 – The only true favorite in round number one that took home a victory was Js Great Escape. This greyhound is a solid grade A and might just be the best sprinter in the entire field. He has won several grade A’s in the past, count 3 in his last 5 starts, and that includes back to back wins and the first round of the stakes. With a good outside post to start from tonight, I expect more of the same! Next best will be tested with the true puppy early speeder Craigie Testify early on in this effort. Holding late will be trouble and that is where the former grade A’s Ww’s O Not Again, from a great rail post, and Rovers Sky, should find a way to get into the mix around the finish line. (8-3-1-4)

Race 12 – Capping off the evening of stakes events we get a heated battle between a pair of first round winners. Ww Standardissue and Boc’s Andross both took home 19 points in their first efforts in the stakes and each could do it again in this one. Andross has the early speed edge, but he has been caught in the past from behind and that could happen again here as Standardissue has gears in the stretch that might just take the leader down. Both have good post positions tonight, so it all comes down to who wants it more in this effort. Others to watch out for include the solid grade A late driving factor Pat C Outbounds, along with the classy trying to rebound runner Kanes Mini.
