The third round of the 2016 James J Patton Silver Cup is ready to go, and as we cut down the size of the field, the races get tougher and tougher to win. Just 4 full fields of greyhounds remaining in the stakes, and each will be vying for every point that they can muster in order to reach the next round and eventually the finals, well that is if they are lucky enough. Loads of talent still lurking, including 2 undefeated runners, many former stakes finalists, and even a couple of stakes winners. Let’s look at the remaining races and see if we can start off the week right with you cashing some tickets at bestbet Jacksonville.
Third round of $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup
Monday Evening –
Race 7 – Another outside post and another chance at a win for the undefeated Need My Moneynow. If you need an explanation as to why this greyhound should win, just see his last race, or the one 3 races back, or the one 6 races ago. All came from outside post positions, and all were wins. Moneynow has started to figure out his timing and has been firing fast out of the box during his 4 race win streak. He can get it done from the lead or from off the pace, and those 30.2o something times are far faster than anything else in this field. He has all the tools and it should be another box to wire win in this race. Making him work, like he did with Seldom Told in round one, will be O Ya Gunsmoke. Gunsmoke never fired in his last effort and will make amends of that here. With a better post, he will fire out fast and be a factor throughout in this effort. Others to consider including the closing duo of Windy Gabby and Sheezsohot. Both greyhounds can run a ton in the 2nd half of the race, but neither have the early speed needed to be around the leader in the early stages. Coming on in the stretch, they will battle for the top spot under on the card at the wire. (7-4-6-8)
Race 10 – A bit of a surprise here maybe, but I like Atascocita Pirro. Pirro has run well in both rounds of the stakes and put a serious bid to end Pippi’s win streak in his last effort. Tonight he is posted well again, and even though he will have to come from off the pace again to get the job done, I think this stakes vet has the goods to get the job done. Put the big 19 points up with his current numbers and he will have a shot to move on to the semis. If he wants to win he will have to catch Ww’s Lost Girl to get it done. This early speed machine has been a threat throughout in each of the first two rounds, but she has not seen the open air up front in either effort. Tonight in a race with no big time early speeders, she will be a force to the front and I expect her to lead for the majority of this race. If she steals enough early on, this could be a box to wire romp. Also looking to contend is the closing pair of Pat C Outbounds and My First Kiss. Both greyhounds have loads left in the stretch and will be coming on strong to challenge once again in this effort. Both like their respective post positions and will be making up ground on the leader late in this effort. If either of them can get in the conversation with Lost Girl at the turn, they might have a chance at the upset at the wire. (3-6-1-8)
Race 11 – Hard to pick against a greyhound with an 8 race win streak, so I won’t! This greyhound is nothing flashy, she doesn’t beat them by 20, she does not have all the raw speed of the others, but she has a tremendous break and the WILL to WIN! In her last 8 races she has not been beaten to the turn, or the wire, and looks to post up yet another victory in this effort. She is short late, but no one has gotten to her before the wire. Look for her to be pressed early, often, and late again, but some way, somehow, she finds a way to score one more time. Prompting the pace and giving another all-out effort will be Sunkist N Salty. This greyhound has enough early to be dangerous and enough late to take over and win races. If someone is going to run Pippi down in this field tonight, it will be Sunkist N Salty. Hot off a victory, she will be determined to vie for another in this effort. Another early speeder to worry about will be Gs Flipper. Another greyhound that is hot off a win, Flipper is a stakes vet that knows how to get things done. From a great outside post, right next to Pippi, I expect her to stalk the leader throughout, and come up just a bit short at the line tonight. Pat C Rig will also throw his hat into the ring late in this effort. He will be coming on strong, like he always does, but the early speed might just prove too much for him to overcome. Winning might be a stretch, but playing him under on your tickets could be a good bet. (7-1-8-4)
Race 12 – Really tough race to cap off the evening as 6 of the 8 greyhounds in the field have won a round of the stakes. All have early speed and each and every one of them can make a case as who should be the winner at the wire. Here I like Se’s Real Deal. A huge winner in round 1, running the fastest of any competitor, she is posted in the same box as that effort. She is no one round wonder either as she stalked Need My Moneynow is her 2nd trip around the stakes oval. Tonight I see a big break in her future and for her to get back on top with a winning trip. She will not be alone up front though as there are several others that will be contending for the lead early and often. Hey Hey Daddy didn’t do much in round 1 but made up for it in her second round race. Hitting the lid, she dominated and posted up a blistering time of 30.36 seconds on the way to a big time W. Back outside, she will have to overcome the post here, but with the 6 heading to the rail early on, she will get room to rush and run. If she gets out, she could wire this field on the lead again. Another round 2 victor, after a disappointing first effort, was the bestbet Juvenile winner Pullanallnighter. This early speeder is tough as long as she can get around the lead early on, and that is just what I think she is going to do in this effort. She has a solid post position and should stalk the pace throughout in this race. If she can see the early lead tonight, she too has a chance at back to back wins. Daddys littermate, Real Good Feelin is also in this field and should be a late threat to the leaders. Unlike her sister, she is more of a closer and will be coming on in the later stages of this race. Another good post for her to stat from here, she will need to stay clear of trouble in the early stages in order for her to contend at the wire tonight. (3-7-8-2)
The semi-finals of the 2016 $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup will run on Saturday evening March 5th at bestbet Jacksonville. The field will be trimmed down once again as we see the best 24 greyhounds compete for a chance at the finals.
