After round 2 of the $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup only 2 greyhounds remain undefeated, and both of those greyhounds belong to the DQ Williams Kennel. Those were not the kennels only winners in the stakes, they won another round and finished 2nd and 4th with their other two entries. So in 5 starts, they never finished out of the money.

Need My Moneynow is one of the two that is untouched and ran the most impressive race on the card in the 11th. Breaking from the outside, he was unabated to the early lead and took over instant command of his race. No one was in the zip code with him at the break, he has really started to fire out fast, as he rushed the turn all alone on the lead to the turn. Three lengths clear of the rest, he coasted all the way around the racetrack on the lead for the easy victory. Crossing in a blistering 30.24 seconds as he won his 4th straight race. First round winner, Se’s Real Deal was her only competition as she chased throughout in place. Running a distance show was Sheezsohot and fourth went to Ww’s Toe Slam.

Not to be outdone, DQ’s other streaker posted up another win as well. Pippi played the cards she always does and took home yet another win in the 2nd. Breaking close and surging to the early lead, she was in control as they went to the turn. Never does she get too far away from her competition, but she does enough early, stealing 3 lengths, to hold off all the comers at the finished line. Sure the lead dwindled, down to a half a length at the wire, but they just couldn’t catch her. She posted up her 8th straight win in this effort, as Ww’s Block Off and Atascocita Pirro mirrored her at the finish line in 2nd and 3rd. Mac’s Melanie was game throughout in the final spot in the superfecta.

The other winner from DQ was Hey Daddy in the 4th race. Another Need A Date pup made amends for running out in round number 1. Breaking extremely well, he too was in control of the race from the get go. Driving to the front end, he was 4 lengths clear of the rest at the turn and that lead increased with every step he took around the oval. By the far turn he was in another zip code and he maintained that 7 length margin to the wire. Crossing in a personal best of 30.36 seconds, he looks to be another formidable foe in this stakes event. Pat C Rig chased the leader throughout in place and My First Kiss came on strong late to challenge Rig at the wire for place. Mercury Morris also gained and completed the superfecta in this effort.

The other wins in the second round were spread all over the place, but the main tenant throughout was that early speed was getting to the lead and holding on for the victory. Sure there were a few exceptions, but no one was coming from well off the pace to get up and win races in round number 2. It was nice to see a few former stakes winners, and finalists, stepping up in the stakes as all 5 of the remaining races were won by stakes winners, 3 in all, or stakes finalists, the other 2 on the card.

Sunkist N Salty, the winner of the 550 leg of the 2015 Holiday Stakes, was the best of the winners left as she gave a determined effort in the 15th to capture the win. Rushing out fast from the box, she was outgamed to the lead at the turn, but really she was just a head off the leader as they turned up the backside. By the far turn she had stuck her head back out in front and was bound and determined that she was not going to get beat on this occasion. Driving home in a hurry, she stretched her slim lead to a length in a half at the wire as she crossed in 30.57 seconds. Next best was the closing Pat C Outbounds followed by the chasing and ousted Par Super Dee and the late gaining threat Real Good Feelin.

Pullanallnighter, 2015 bestbet Juvenile winner, bombed to the early lead in the 10th race and was not going to relent at any cost. Stealing a couple of lengths by the first turn, she got a little help behind with some traffic and took full advantage of it as she went down the backside. By the far turn the lead had shrunk as the closers were coming, but once again she got a little bit of luck on her side. As they made the final push for home, race favorite Seldom Told ran into chaser Ww’s Lost Girl in the final few strides and secured the win for Allnighter at the wire. Now I don’t think he gets their anyways, but it just made sure that she took home the W at the wire by a half a length in 30.63 seconds. Told injured his toe in the process and was withdrawn from the stakes. Told settled for place, as Lost Girl took third, and fourth was captured by the closing Windy Gabby at the line.

Pat C More Ever, the 2015 bestbet Puppy Stakes winner, who has not won in a long time, got off the snide in the 9th race on the card. Breaking poorly, he moved his way down to the rail and continued to chase the pace to the turn. Arkaska Lotus was the early lead and took the front end position all the way to the far turn, but that is when More Ever decided that tonight was the night for a win. Shifting gears, he drove by the leader and seized control of the race as they turned for home. Proving tough on top he drew away from the rest and crossed the line 2.5 lengths clear in 30.73 seconds. Ww’s Tide Way closed late for next best and Fanatic Paulie drove hard to secure show at the wire. Early leader Arkaska Lotus was outgamed late, but did manage to hold on in the superfecta.

Multi-stakes finalist Ww’s Sammy and Gs Flipper were the other two winners on the card. Both greyhounds took over early on in their respective race and each proved to be too much for the competition on the front end. Sammy’s win came in the 13th, where she drove away from the field up the backside and left them 5 lengths behind her at the wire as she stopped the clock at an impressive 30.55 seconds. Gs Flipper’s win came in the 7th race as she exploded to the lead, stole a big lead early on, and held on late for the 2.5 length victory in 30.75 seconds.

The third round of the 2015 James J Patton Silver Cup will run on Monday evening February 29, 2016. The field will be trimmed down to 4 races as only the best of the best will be moving on. So make plans to cheer on your favorites here at bestbet Jacksonville.
