Another round down and as the fields decrease the talent level increases in the 2016 edition of the $20,000 bestbet Derby. Loads of fantastic greyhounds remain in the 4 races, including a duo from J & J Calabro kennel who are undefeated. Drawing in separate events, they will have a chance to keep the streak going and probably secure themselves a spot in the finals already. Let’s take a look at the races for tonight and see if we can’t get you cashing some tickets here at bestbet Jacksonville.
Monday evening – 3rd round bestbet Derby
Race 7 – Time for Kk Whitezin to get up and win a race. Alright he just missed last time out, but tonight she gets her revenge. Who can you bring it out on? Well the greyhound that beat her last time out. Try as she might she just couldn’t run down the leader before the wire. From similar posts again tonight, she finds a way to get her nose in front at the line and take home the W. Maker her work for it again with me the fantastic pup Herstal. This greyhound is growing stronger in each and every effort over the route and probably has the best raw speed of any greyhound in this race. The post might be tough, but if she breaks it really doesn’t matter, beside she won from the one next door in her last trip. She is tough on top and has some close left at the end of the race as well. If this duo both get our and decide that they want to run, it is going to be another humdinger of a race to watch. They are not the only greyhounds to consider her though. Hioctanebill was a first round winner and draws an advantageous post position tonight here next to the rail. Not missing a beat over 660, this converted sprinter is loving the new distance. Right there with the point leaders so far, expect another strong effort from him tonight. Last but no least I like Darx Ida Da Moon. Granted winning might be a longshot for him, but finding a way to the ticket seems to be his forte. In 5 of his last 6 starts he has been in the money, including both rounds of the stakes so far. This big time closer will be coming on strong in the stretch and should find a way into the money mix again at the finish line. If he wants a chance to move up the ladder, he will most definitely have to break better in this effort. (7-5-2-3)
Race 9 – How can you pick against an undefeated greyhound in the rounds who also has 4 wins in 5 starts? You CAN’T and we WON’T! Raiders Bacardi is a closing machine that is not only winning races from off the pace, he has been dominating them. Catching the lead at the far turn in his last effort, he left the field by 7 more lengths in the stretch alone. He gets another strong near rail post and that should keep him out of trouble early on. Unstoppable late, he will find a way to keep the streak going tonight. If he does want to win he will need to catch the early speeders to get it done. Both Pj Alabama and Bostonstrongiris lurk on the outside and both have the break and skills to control this race to the stretch. Alabama is running hotter as she just came off a huge win, but Iris has the stakes and class edge on everyone in this field. Both will come out running in this effort, but I think the early edge goes to Iris. Missing her break last time out, she is looking for redemption, but how long can she hold the lead is the real question. Both greyhounds are short late and if they want to take down the undefeated runner, they will need to steal many lengths early on and get some help behind in order to get it done. I would be amiss if I left out the 2-time Orange Park Derby winner Tmc’s Sweety Pie. I know she is not running like she can, but when she is on, we all know just what she can do. She has not broken fast in a long, long time, but in the rounds she has closed well and shown some of that late speed. What might just make her dangerous in this effort is the post position. Finally, back near the rail, she might just get room early and if she comes to run, we all know that the true race tonight might be for place. (3-7-6-2)
Race 11 – Veteran time in this race as O Ya Gunsmoke finds his break and the win again tonight. His first round effort was special as she hit the lid and went box to wire, but his second round race as not quite as impressive. He didn’t fire out, but still rushed well and came up short at the end of the race to finish just out of the money at the wire. Here tonight he gets near the rail again in this effort and that will be the difference maker for him. He loves it inside and should be unabated to the lead, if he wants to, in this trip. Once in front he will prove determined and take home score number two in the rounds. Gunsmoke will not be alone though as they are several other early speeders to push the pace tonight. Strong puppy Lk’s Picketwire’s effort in rounds mimics Gunsmokes to a tee. Both had great first rounds, and less than perfect second rounds, and are ready to get back on top tonight. Picketwire gets a better outside post tonight and it could go a long way in helping him get into the mix early on. With some closing speed left at the end of the race, even if he can’t see the lead, he might be able to steal away the win tonight from just off the pace. A threat throughout for sure, keep an eye out for this fantastic pup. More speed comes our way with Shutthefrontdoor. This greyhound know show to compete in stakes races and was the runner up in the 2015 edition of the Orange Park Derby. Loving the rail, she is close enough here in the 2 box to do some damage. She has been in contention in both of the rounds and has finished in the money in 5 of her last 6 trips around the oval. Breaking is clearly her best shot at stealing a win, so she must be on top of her game at the start in order to have a chance tonight. Pat C Lulu caps off our selections and likes the rest, breaking is a must in this race. She draws a tough 5 box here, but if she comes out running, she will get room early on. She has been tough as of late around the early lead and was ousted in the stretch late last time out. Once again winning might be a stretch for her, but contending and holding on in the money is a pretty good bet. With 3 in a row and 4 in her last 6 efforts, she should have a nose for the cash again here. (3-8-2-5)
Race 15 – Bro time in this effort as Mercury Morris looks to keep the mojo going strong and join his brother with a 3 race win streak. This pup has been getting it done in the family way, from well off the early pace, albeit with a little more flare for the dramatic. His wins have come right before the wire and he has slid by to secure the slim wins at the finish line. Tonight he gets the 8 box and it might be something that people need to think about. He has only one start outside the 5 box over 660 and in that race he finished out of the money. Here he might get more room though then he thinks as the 7 and the 6 should both go to the rail early on. If he can at least get around cleanly, his late drive should give him a chance to keep the dream alive in this effort. Like in any race, if a closer wins, he has to catch someone and in this race Ww’s Corolla is that greyhound. Coming off a huge win, Corolla looks to turn this almost midtrack post into a launching pad for another strong victory in the stakes. In a race with not a lot of early speed, she might be able to steal the front end in this effort. Once there she is going to be tough to beat out before the wire. If she wants to go, she will be upset minded in this effort. Experience plays a role as well here as Gs Daisy May found some fresh legs in her last effort and finished a strong 2nd at the wire. Always closing, Daisy finds the money more times than not, you know like 5 of her last 6 efforts, but unlike her younger years, it is a struggle for her to get up and win races before the wire. A constant chaser from a not so great post will yield a strong play under on your tickets tonight. Not to be overlooked Mac Ennison gets the benefit of the doubt from the 1 box. Just when you think you can count her out, she will find her break, fire out fast, and find a way to contend her the race. Breaking will be the key to her success here and maybe the 1 box will allow her to come out of her shell in this effort. (8-3-6-1)
