On Saturday Evening November 21st we saw the top 8 greyhounds at the racetrack over the 770 yard course lock up horns in the finals of the 2015 Thanksgiving Marathon Challenge. It was a great set of greyhounds that had finished 4th or better in the previous qualifying race, and it turned out to be an exciting race to watch too.
At the break we all got what we expected. Shutthefrontdoor burst to the early lead, cut to the rail, and was in complete control early on in this effort. Chasing behind was Pat C Moon Shine and the other early speed entry Ddm’s Orion. This was how the race was going until the backside the second time around and that is when things got very, very interesting. Everyone started to shift gears, except for the leader, and in the end it was the closers that were going to prevail in this effort. Leading the charge was Done Dusted from the Lester Raines Kennel. She put on a move up the backside that I haven’t seen in a mighty long time. Picking up rivals with every step she took, including some not so short ones, ie Pat C Moonshine, she poked her nose past the leader at the far turn and no one here was going to catch her in this effort. Jetting up the stretch she increased her lead and cruised to a solid 3 length victory at the wire. Pat C Moonshine drove home to place, but the rest were going to have to be separated by a photo. You see Done Dusted was not the only greyhound making a run, race favorite C Ville C Alice also was rebounding after drifting back early and was coming like a Mack truck up the stretch. Would she have enough to beat out the tiring leaders Shutthefrontdoor and Ddm’s Orion? The answer was YES! By a half a length she finished third as the early leading duo survived together in a dead heat for the final spot in the superfecta at the wire.
Congratulations head out to trainer, and owner, Mike Gerard, the Lester Raines Kennel, and everyone else connected with this fantastic late driving greyhound. Only her third start over the route, she showed that she is a forced to be reckoned with, and that might have come from mom and dad. Dad, All-American Eds Budby, was a mainstay over the longer distance races and her mother T Dizzle could compete at the top grade at all 3 distances. Both were bestbet Jacksonville products and now we get to see their offspring continuing the dominance.
Up next for this fantastic greyhound could be the shot at another title in the upcoming 770 bracket of the Holiday Classic to run on Saturday evening December 12th.
