Two greyhounds remain undefeated in the $20,000 2015 bestbet Sprint Classic. Both O Ya Gunsmoke and By Gold Radar left nothing to chance as they put up strong front running efforts for back to back wins in the rounds.
O Ya Gunsmoke controlled the 11th race on the card from the start. He took full advantage for the 1 box and came out running. Once in the early lead, he bolted to the first turn on top, left trouble behind him, and never looked back. Padding his margin with every step he took, he crossed 7 lengths ahead of the rest and posted up the fastest time of the night in 30.54 seconds. Gs Brody finished next best, followed by Nomistakeaboutit and Ww’s Wu Shock.
By Gold Radar gave almost a mirror image effort in the 4th race on the card. Breaking quickly, also from the 1 box, he outrushed everyone to the lead at the first turn. Determined on top, he never relinquished an inch of ground and easily bested this field by almost 5 lengths at the wire in a speedy time of 30.70 seconds. Improving some was Par Super Dee in second. Budz Back Draft finished 3rd and the early speeder Gs Maleki rounded out the superfecta.
The other big winner on the evening was the Sarras Kennel as they were the only ones to win more than one race in the 2nd round of qualifying. Both might have come as a surprise to some, but to me, you can never leave one of their winners out of any race.
Wp’s Snow Peak came to run in the 2nd race on the car. Breaking sharply, Peak cleared early and rushed hard to seize command at the first turn. Stealing away a couple of lengths down the backside, she could need every inch to win this effort. By the far turn and lead had shrunk as the chasing Beachin was gaining with every stride. Down the stretch Peak went, and at the wire, she held on for the slim win at the finish line. Beachin settled for place, just a nose off the win. Braska Runcie was a distant third and Pat C More Ever finished 4th.
Macktheknife woke up in the 10th race and left the field in his lurch. Breaking on top, yes I said on top, he was in complete control of this race from the very first step. With loads of room to run, he pulled away from the rest of the field with every stride that he took around the oval. By the stretch it was all over as he crossed 5 lengths better than the rest in 30.65 seconds. Wv’s Dogtown finished in place as Miss Kitty beat out Mrl Gettin Even in a photo for 3rd at the wire.
The rest of the points were spread out all over the pace in different kennels, but it was nice to see some former stakes competitors get back to winning in round 2. Stakes final veteran Pat C Gatsby found his break and held tough late over a stellar field in the 9th race to secure a win for the Pat Collins Kennel. Eds Budby Blaze was the only greyhound in round number 2 to come from off the pace to get it done at the wire. In race 5 he chased down the early leader, Flying Chandler, in the stretch to post up 16 points for the Crowe Kennel. Lee Polly rebounded nicely in round 2 as well. This multi top grade winner found her break and the rest was history in race number 12. She stole enough early to maintain throughout to post up a win at the wire. Last but not least was the longshot on the card, Macs Elaine. Hitting the lid, she took the lead and never gave it back. Surviving at the line, she was good enough to gain some points for the Chances Are Kennel in race 7.
The third round action will take place on Friday evening October 30th at bestbet Jacksonville. Four fields remain, as only the best of the best moved on. Be ready to join us and see the top class greyhounds go head to head once again in the $20,000 2015 bestbet Sprint Classic.
