The first round is in the books and it was dominated by just a few kennels. Clear Lake won 3 rounds, Ocala won 2 rounds, Blanchard won 2 rounds, and Willis won the other race. Can the top kennels keep the fires burning here in round 2, or will there be a new kennel that immerges and takes over the competition. All the points are up for grabs tonight, so let’s take a closer look at the Round 2 races in the $20,000 bestbet Sprint Classic.
Monday evening – Round 2 of bestbet Sprint Classic
Race 2 – SEVEN GREYHOUND RACE – Here the battle will be up front early on with the big time early speeders Cj’s Sadie and Ch Bear Foot. Both have the skills to see the early lead in this race, but holding on late and winning will be the biggest task to overcome. They are going to be hard pressed to get this done as both are short late. Look for the puppy stakes winner, Pat C More Ever, to swoop in and spoil the night at the wire. Keep an eye out for Braska Runcie too. Just missed in round 1 and might have another strong effort here. (8-7-2-4)
Race 4 – Everything is going for By Gold Radar once again in round 2. He loves the rail, gets the one box, he has good early speed, should challenge for the lead, and he is red hot with 3 wins in his last 5 starts. Look for him to stalk the pace set by ankle burner Gs Maleki early on, take over down the backside, and prove tough late for back to back wins in the stakes. Others to worry about include solid grade A runner Par Super Dee, and the late closing side star Ww’s Black Pearl. (1-3-2-6)
Race 5 – Class rules the roost in this race as solid grade A’s Ed’s Budby Blaze and Flying Chandler clearly are the ones to beat. Both greyhounds can come on strong late, but if either want to win, there are going to have to get out of the starting box a bit better in this effort. Blaze gets a slight edge over his rival as he loves it outside and won a race from this post position 2 races back. Speaking of posts, watch out for Salem Witch Hunt too. I know the lines aren’t that great, but last time in red, she wired the field and could do it again tonight. Keep a look out for Gm’s Lil Sophia as well. This closer can be tough late on occasion if she can get around close in the early stages. (8-7-1-3)
Race 7 – Red hot stakes vet C Ville Wynter looks for another victory in this effort, but it won’t come easy. Running red hot, with 2 straight wins and 3 in her last 4 starts, she is a threat for sure, but others will be making her work if she wants the 16 points and the hat-trick in this effort. Gs Flipper previously won 3 in a row in grade A, and just missed in round 1 with a stellar time. Pat C Eye Opener is also a solid grade A and always seems to be around the pace for the duration of his races. Upstart Windy Gabby could fly up into the mix late as well, especially from this outside post position. (6-5-4-7)
Race 9 – Top greyhounds will be tough to beat in this effort as three solid grade A’s go after the lead and the win early on. Fiesta Beowolf gets the nod in this effort as he has been the most consistent of the bunch. He has 3 wins in 6 starts, including one in round 1, and hasn’t missed the trifecta in 6 straight. Amigos Salsa also should contend with a great post and some great grade A efforts showing as well. Stakes vet, Pat C Gatsby, might have missed his break last time out, but don’t expect that trend to continue here, and don’t forget about Gs Charming either. A first round closing winner, he might have a shot at back to back jacks with all of this early speed tiring out in the stretch. (7-1-2-4)
Race 10 – Crowded in the middle is a good way to describe this race. Mel Gettin even and O Ya Tornado both were first round winners from off the pace and either could do it once again in this race. Both have great late speed, but it could come down to who breaks better in this race in turn will get the W. Sandwiched in between them is All-American Lee Opera, and if she could ever find her break, she could get back to dominating on our circuit. (She closed from nowhere in round 1 and finished 3rd) Miss Kitty could be a surprise threat too if she can get out of the box. She is tough when she is close early on, and with no big time early speeders in this effort, she might just stand a chance to make it into the money at the wire. (4-6-5-7)
Race 11 – Tough to pick against the best greyhound in round 1, so I won’t. Cj’s Colin is tearing up the racetrack and put up another find display in round 1 where he stretched his win streak to 4 races in a row. He has blazing early speed and has been holding on tough in the stretch as well. No doubt he will be pressed again in this race though as first round winner O Ya Gunsmoke gets a great 1 box, and first round runner-ups Super C Aria and Nomistakeaboutit both have their sights again on the top prize at the wire tonight. (7-1-6-2)
Race 12 – Redemption time in round 2 of the stakes for Lee Polly. Last time out she ran into trouble and tonight that gets remedied right away with the post position. She loves it inside and the 2 box is right in her wheelhouse. Look back 4 races and you will see what I mean. Box to wire win in 30.58, OUCH! Trying to upset the leader and make her give her all will be the rested and ready runner Gm’s Charley, along with the well posted threat Gs Viola and the always closing solid grade A, Cp’s Tavern. (2-6-1-7)
The third round of the $20,000 bestbet Sprint Classic will run on Friday evening October 30th at bestbet Jacksonville. The field will be trimmed down an only the best of the best will be moving on. Come out tonight and Friday to watch, wager, and win on the best pups around!
