The big winner on Friday evening in the 1st round of the $20,000 bestbet Sprint Classic was the Clear Lake Racing Kennel. Not only did they win 3 of the qualifying rounds, they had the fastest of the fast runner in round 1.
Breaking on top in the nightcap, Cj’s Colin surged to instant control of the 15th and final race on the card and never looked back. This normally short late runner, ran tough on top and maintained his margin all the way to the finish line for the big time W. He crossed in 30.42 seconds, which was the quickest trip on the card, as he won by a couple of lengths. Gs Flipper was a close second, followed by Pat C Eye Opener in third and Beachin in 4th.
The cagey stakes veteran C Ville Wynter also showed up for the Clear Lake Racing Kennel. Coming out close to the leaders at the break in the 11th race, she outrushed them all to the lead and took over command of the race at the first turn. Never slowing down, she increased her lead throughout and left the field in her lurch in the stretch. Winning by almost 6 lengths, she was clearly the best on this occasion as she stopped the clock in 30.74 seconds. Runner up was Gs Brody, third was Trackinfo Stud, and fourth was Windy Gabby.
The surprise winner for the Clear Lake Racing Kennel was By Gold Radar. This greyhound put on a show in the 9th race as he broke close, drove to the early lead, and held his ground on top all the way to the finish line. Crossing in a speedy 30.72 second clocking, he was 3 lengths clear of his nearest threat at the wire. Puppy stakes winner Pat C More Ever was second, Gm’s Charley was third, and Ww’s Lost Girl finished fourth.
Other kennels had good nights too as the Ocala Kennel and the Blanchard Kennel both had a pair of wins in the rounds.
The O Ya Clan did the damage in round 1 for the Ocala Kennel. O Ya Gunsmoke beat the box in the 12th race and left the field chasing him the entire way. Posting up the second fastest trip on the card, his 30.50 clocking was a thing of beauty. Not to be outdone, his brother, O Ya Tornado, made the most of his effort in the 5th race, but got to the winner’s circle in a different fashion. Giving up lengths to the early speeders at the start of the race, Tornado relied on his Cyclonic finish to close down a 3 length lead at the far turn and drive by the leaders in the stretch to secure a win.
The Blanchard kennel was championed by Mrl Gettin Even in the 13th race and by Fiesta Beowolf in the 10th race. Both greyhounds ran a similar race, but Gettin Even was far superior to the field that he ran against in round 1. Breaking in the middle of the pack, Gettin Even rushed the turn hard, took advantage of trouble at the turn, and seized control down the backside. Increasing her lead throughout, she put the hammer down in the stretch and won by the most lengths of any competitor in round 1, 8.5, and crossed the line in a speed 30.61 seconds. Fiesta Beowolf might not have had one of his dominate performances, but a win is a win is a win, especially in a stakes qualifying round. Missing his break, Beowolf drifted to the rail, put his head down, and outrushed everyone to the front end. He was pressed throughout and even a bit short at the end of this race, but no one could get to him before the wire.
The other winner on the card came from the Willis Kennel in the 7th race. Gs Charming was in a battle royal throughout this effort and found a way to get it done at the finish line. Chasing the pace a couple of lengths behind Braska Runcie for the majority of this effort, Charming dug in deep in the stretch and won the duel with not only the lead, but the fast closing Eds Budby Blaze to secure the victory. Runice settled for place, while Eds Budby Blaze finished third. Flying chandler completed the superfecta.
Second round action takes place on Monday evening at bestbet Jacksonville. All 8 boxes will return for another shot at the points and a chance to move on to the quarter-finals.
