The first round is in the books and it was controlled by Red Oak Racing and Julia Ward, but a new day and several other chances for greyhounds to earn points and move on in the 2013 edition of the Jacksonville Juvenile.
Seven great races are on tap for Monday evening at bestbet Orange Park, so let’s get into it and see who has the chops to rack up some more points.
Monday Evening –
The action starts in race 2 where Ww’s Zinc looks to parlay the red box with a big late drive into a win in round 2. For sure he is going to have to catch Gs John B who has the best early speed of the bunch and is looking to rebound after a lackluster effort in round 1. Two other closers, both coming over from 660 yards, should be putting on the pressure in the deep stretch as well. Look for Crv’s Stafford and Teak Totem to get into the mix at the wire. (1-3-2-8)
In race 4 first round winner Ww’s Chick A Dee looks to make it back to back wins in this effort. No matter the lead she will be too close too soon not to get the job done again, especially from an advantageous inside post position. Boc’s Calluback looks to continue the red hot running and should be Chick A Dee’s biggest threat. Don’t sleep on the other inside runners though, Pat C Buckaroo has shown flashes recently, and Dutch Hero is far better than his recent lines show, besides he has the one box to start this race from. (3-6-2-1)
Another first round winner head the way in race 5 as Ww’s Pour It On should love starting out in the red blanket. Here he gets room to rush once again and late no one in this field will be a match for him. Looking to field their break and trying to rule the roost on the front end will be Ww Who I Am and Cb Strike Eagle. Both have the tools to steal away the win on the front end, but each will need huge lead, or some help behind, to get it done tonight. Watch out for Gs Not Cracker late, as this grade A threat has exceptional close ability. (1-3-6-8)
Race 7 has not one, but two, first round winners in it and the contrasting style should lead to an exciting race up the stretch and for the win tonight. Both greyhounds showcased their best in round 1, but Ww’s Vibrant should have a little too much for the early leader Atascocita Doris to handle in the stretch. Her late speed comes in handy as she denies the leader for the win. Also chasing late should be a first round runner up, Hallo Kellys Boy, and the 3rd place finisher in the recent Mayflower Melee stakes, Owe Nomo. (3-4-2-6)
Race 9 will see a new winner in the stakes as none of these greyhounds touched the wire first in round one. So let’s go with class and that starts on the outside part of the racetrack with a pair of solid grade A competitors. Ww’s Just Enough and Gs April both have the tools to get it done in this race. Both are closers, both have great determination, and both has tasted victory in grade A 3 races back. Here he comes down to who breaks better, and who wants it more. Slight edge to Just Enough. Making the leaders work for it will be the ideally posted Pat C Gift Ww, and the super looking pup from Sarras Royal Snowflake. (8-7-4-2)
If there was even a bonified lock in a stakes round, well the 10th race on the card might just be it. Mayflower Melee stakes winner, Pat C Gatsby, is the only grade A greyhound in this field. No first round winners, and only one greyhound that ran in the money in round 1. Here I see him breaking closer, chasing the early leader to the far turn, and then driving home to the easy victory at the finish. Pushing the pace early will be Kidsbro Goesfast but in the stretch he will be no match for the champ as he settles for place. Best of the rest heads out to solid chaser Lauren Kan Bolt, and the up again, down again styling’s of Tomco Padfoot. This race is the first half of the forced out Twin-Trifecta, so wheel the lock on top and get those exchanges. (5-3-6-4)
Rounding out the rounds for Monday evening, the 11th race has another pair of first round winners and a bunch of talent locked up on the inside part of the racetrack. Bostonstrongiris had the trip of the first round with a 30.52 second clocking in her win, but don’t overlook the true puppy Ww Ringlet either. Her 30.70 was no fluke and with just 3 official starts before the stakes, she is only going to get better. With good inside posts, this race could turn into a battle royal on the front end tonight. Late both competitors better watch out for the always closing Gs Daisy May who ran a huge effort in round 1 just to make it back into the trifecta. Pat C No Fuss also gets a look because of the post position and his last effort. (4-2-3-1)
Third round action comes your way on Friday evening November 29th. The field will be cut down and the action will be heating up, so don’t miss a minute of action at bestbet Orange Park in the 2013 edition of the Jacksonville Juvenile.
