Mitchie and Proper Undefeated but Porter Steals the Show

Round 2 was a doozy as several of the first round winners fell in their qualifying rounds, but Easi Mitchie from Clear Lake Racing, and Pat C Proper from Pat Collins posted up back to back wins and are the only two left standing in the ranks of the unbeatens. Several other household names did get back on track though and posted up some superior efforts.

Stakes veteran Easi Mitchie started off the night right in the 2nd race as she broke from her early speed mold and ran down the leader Atascocita Hoot in the stretch. Hoot outrushed everyone to the lead and was holding strong at the far turn, but in the stretch the early speed monster got too tired heading home. Mitchie, who was chasing throughout, came back with a vengeance and took home the win near the wire. James J Patton Silver Cup winner, Amazing Run, ran steady and was just off in show.

Pat P Proper left little to discussion in the 11th race as is took command from the get go and races off alone for the easy victory. Breaking from the 8 box she had room early on. By the turn she had finally gotten her nose clearly in front and increased the lead down the backside. Was clear of the competition and coasted all the way to the finish line for the win. Gs Kristen won the best of the rest prize as she held off the closing Wwk Money Maker for place at the finish line.

Although these two remained undefeated, the night really belonged to 2012 Orange Park Derby winner Snj Black Porter. On this occasion, in the 5th race on the card, Porter decided to break, not close, but on top and that was really bad news for the competition. This 660 monster was clear on the lead in a 550 race and all I can say was that it got U-G-L-Y! Drawing away with every step that he took, Porter stopped the clock in the fastest time on the card at 30.64 seconds as he beat a stakes field by 10 and a half lengths. Not much more to say that WOW! The distance place went to Mrl Outlaw Billy, who chased in second throughout, and third was Ww Ignite.

Connell had a good night as well in the stakes by winning two races with a couple of greyhounds that you might have heard before. Kiowa Mat Marty and Warped both grabbed quick control of their races and never looked back. Both beat tough fields in the 9th and 10th race, and both clung to a comfortable margin at the finish line. Marty ran the second fastest time on the card in 30.69 seconds, and Warped also broke 31.00 with a run of 30.98 seconds.

Not to be outdone, the O’Donnell kennel also won a pair of races with Kiowa Davy Jones in race 4 and Kay Outlaw in race 7. Davy Jones broke close, rushed to the lead, stole a couple of lengths early, and held on strong late for the slim victory over the hard trying Ww’s Cous. Outlaw’s win was a big more impressive as she burst to the lead from the box and took full advantage of the 8 post. She was always in front and improved her margin all the way around the racetrack. She was stalked from box to wire by Battle of the Sexes winner My Present and she never gave up an inch.

The other winner was Falcon’s Time for Tootsie. Tootsie is a huge closer and all she needed to win was to be in the conversation early on, and that is just where she started this race from. Nancy Kerrigan won the race to the turn over both Tootsie and 2013 Orange Park Derby winner Safe At Home, and held the lead down the backside. By the far turn Tootsie had taken over the top spot and no one was going to catch her. She turned on the jets late and left the rest behind her for the easy 3 length win in 30.71 seconds. Kerrigan held on for place as race favorite Safe At Home settled for third.

The field will be cut down to 4 races for the quarter-finals which will run on Friday evening, August 30th, at bestbet Orange Park.
