Round 2 of the 2013 James J Patton Silver Cup is here and all seven races return for another chance at some valuable points. Here the first round winners are pretty much split up and several have a shot at staying undefeated headed into the quarter-finals. So let look at each of the races a little deeper.
The fun starts out in race 4 where box beater, and first round winner, Scortch Mcbones looks to put up another gem. No one here, well expect for Gs Kristen if she breaks, can go with him early on to the turn, and once in front he has proven to be a tough out. He is short late though and can be caught if a closers gets around in contention early on. Here I think he last to the wire to get it done again. Pushing the pace should be the aforementioned Gs Kristen, but don’t count out the 2012 James J Patton winner Atascocita Rip, or the extremely well posted closer, Braska Char. (2-8-7-1)
Race 5 offers up a different look as the closers should take over late and proves best at the wire. Gs Jersey just missed in round 1 and really gave a winning effort in that trip. From the same post position I expect her to get around close, right behind the big breaking early leader Mrl Outlaw Billy, and drive by in the stretch to steal away the win. Billy will surrender late, but the question is, can he even hold on for place? Also coming on strong in the deep stretch will be the always moving forward Bruno Mars, and the as fast as she wants to be threat, Amf Slow Bounce. (3-6-1-2)
Battle royal is a good way to describe the 7th race on the card as early leader, Atascocita Hoot, will be trying to wire the field on the front end and stalking closer, Ww’s Wise Gal, will be doing everything in her power to not let that happen. No doubt early who will be in control of this race, Hoot, but in the stretch is where it will get interesting. Gal will give her all and should prove just a bit too much for the leader at the wire. Both better me mindful of the super closing pup Dutch Rudy from the red box, and the resurging closing veteran Ty Kay Willing. (8-5-1-7)
Better post, better effort for Gs Grace in the 9th race. Grace is all rail all the time and gets way close here with the 2 box. I expect her to come out closer and prove tough on top in the stretch. Making her work for it should be the 2013 Orange Park Derby winner, Safe At Home. Home was a mile behind early last time out and needs to break better in this effort. The post doesn’t help either, so he needs to be on top of his game to challenge tonight. Pay attention to the posted up first round winner, Amf Rap Singer, as he might upset again, and the cagey stakes vet Pat C Abash can’t be ignored after 5 straight in the money trips. (2-7-1-8)
No doubt who is going to win this race, even from the 5 box, Snj Black Porter is the one to beat. Talk about tearing up the competition, Porter not only won in round 1, he destroyed the field by almost 10 lengths in a blistering 30.32 second romp. Here he will have to deal with the post, but he can still get the job done from off the pace, and well in this effort for the win. Coming out early to lead should be Tony Dinozzo Pc, but he is too short to hold on and win. Pot O’Gold Classic winner Lucky Bill won’t break, but could be a factor late if he can get around cleanly on the rail, and don’t forget about Kiowa Mat Marty. Sure he was no into it in round 1, but he has won in grade A, and could upset here channels his dads patented break. (5-1-4-6)
Tough to think that Warped won’t put up another monster race in the 11th on the card. She has won 3 straight and each of those races she has looked dominate in the stretch. She likes it midtrack and gets close here in the 3 box. Tonight she has some that can go with her early, and hang around late, so if she pulls off another win, just like she did in round 1, she will deserver every inch of this one. Challenging from start to finish will be veteran Ww Fancy Floyd. Floyd was outgamed late in round 1 for place and it looks like it could happen again in this effort. Although, he has a better post this time out and it really wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if he took home the top spot tonight. He will need a big effort to get it done. Both better watch out for closing the grade A mainstay Gs Jock, and another first round winner, Pat C Stonewall. (3-1-7-5)
Capping off the evening in the 12th race, Amazing Run is looking to live up to her name for the second straight race. She posted up a strong box to wire win in round 1 and could pull off another victory if she can get out of the box well again tonight. She will have to deal with cagey veteran, and 62 race winner, Kiowa Jill Vik right next door, as well as the always trying Ww Double Space. Converted router, Gs Jocelyn, also needs to get a notice tonight. She has the best late speed in this race and could clear from this outside post. If you are looking for an upset at a price, she might just fit that ticket tonight. (5-4-7-8)
