Round 1 – James J Patton Silver Cup – Friday March 29th, 2013
Seven action packed races are headed you way in the first round of the 2013 James J Patton Silver Cup. The best of the best have been assembled and the action comes to you in the 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th races on the card for Friday evening March 29th.
Something for everyone to cheer, watch, and wager on as the veterans, stakes winners, rising stars, and talented underdogs will all get their chance to shine in the stakes spotlight again here at bestbet Orange Park.
So let’s look at the races a little closer and give you the insight you need to cash some tickets and make some money.
Race 7 should be an easy win for the veteran Ww Fancy Floyd. Floyd always gives his all in races and is really the only solid grade A greyhound in this field. He can win with or without the lead and from this 8 box I expect for him to get a clean trip. From just off the pace, he finds a way to post up a win. Trying to ruin his plans will be the talented upstart Quirky Avery, who has won 3 of his last 6 races, stakes veteran Pat C Abash, and early speed newcomer Cayennelightning. (8-6-2-3)
Change of venue in the 9th race should see GS Grace getting back to her winning ways. Grace finished 2nd in the Orange Park Derby finals, but she can run 550 as well. Most of her career wins, 56 in all, have come over the shorter course and when she gets the lead you can FORGETABOUTIT! Here she will be close enough early to get the job done at the wire. Leading the way to the stretch should be the ankle burner BB’s Alonzo from a great rail post, but keep an eye out for the back to back winning D’Bulls Tyvek and the resurging former stakes finalist System Of A Down. (3-2-1-8)
Race 10 gets us the 2012 and the 2013 Orange Park Derby winners locking up for the big W in round 1. Nod to Snj Black Porter here simply because of the post position. Back from the American Derby, he doesn’t miss a beat from his favorite 8 box! Watch him dominate this effort. Safe At Home has to battle from the middle of the back, which is not his forte, but if he can break, he will make it interesting throughout. Gs Kristin should be an early factor from a perfect rail post, but she is too short to hang to the wire, and Chasmo’s Earl gets the best of the rest trophy in this one. (8-4-1-7)
Loads of talent in the 11th race as we feature at over 60 race winner, Kiowa Jill Vik. Jill has forgot more that some of the greyhounds in this field know, but the one thing that stuck in her banks is how to win races. She is tough as long as she is near the early lead, and with the void of early speed around her, that is just where she will be in this effort. In the stretch she will need to dig in deep to hold off the late charging Ww’s Wise Gal and Bruno Mars, and if last year’s winner of this event, Atascocita Rip, decides to RIP the lid, the race here could be for place. (6-4-5-7)
One of the hottest greyhounds at the racetrack gets a chance to win yet another start here in the 12th race. Warped has posted up back to back winning trips and has not missed the money in 6 straight trips. With a great inside post, she comes out running and makes quick work of this field. Showing his athleticism, Gs Jock will be making up ground throughout in this race. With 3 wins in 6 starts, he must be considered a threat, and with a better post, he might be a winner. Tonight he will make it interesting. Ww’s Double Space might not win a lot, but she does finish in the money, expect it again, and AMF Slow Bounce is as fast as she wants to be in the stretch. If interested, she could be upset minded in red. (2-6-4-1)
Puppy power runs amuck in the 14th race as some talented youngsters will be vying for the victory tonight. Kiowa Mat Marty, out of our very own All-American Kay V Tatoo Tony, has taken the racetrack by storm and has shown that he is just as good as anyone at the racetrack. With a great inside box here, he can continue on his winning ways with another strong effort. Stalking early and getting up late, he puts on a clinic. Gs Jersey is a strong closing pup right next door that will be narrowing the gap throughout and coming oh so close in this race. Mrl Outlaw Billy is the best breaker and the one to catch in this effort, and Dutch Rudy has gotten back on track and should provide the leaders with something to think about as they approach the wire tonight. (2-3-8-1)
Speed from the box will be the key to capping off round 1, and the card in race 15th, with a victory. Several greyhounds in this race have the ability to get out of the starting box in a hurry, and each and every one of them have the skills to wire the field on the front end. The probable favorite should be Atascocita Hoot. Hoot is a solid grade A competitor who can beat the box and hang late, but he is going to be under duress in this effort. Newcomer Tony Dinozzo Pc is really coming into his own now and has recently won back to back races in grade A. Mrl Kiss Me Baby gets a notice not only for her break, but her post position, as she starts from her best box, and Scortch Mcbones is back breaking and threatening in races, but using it all early and ramifications at the finish line. (4-6-8-3)
Second round action gets underway on Monday April 1st as all 7 fields of greyhounds will return. Cut downs will come in round 3 on Friday April 5th, and the semi-finals run on Monday April 8th. The finals of this event will take place on Saturday evening April 13th in conjunction with our Truck Giveaway.
