Its stakes racing time again at the Orange Park Kennel Club and we have some fantastic greyhounds ready to do battle in the 2012 edition of the Jacksonville Sprint Classic.
Eight full races chalked full of talent will take to the racetrack on Friday evening March 23rd to rack up some points and the opportunity to keep on advancing in the stakes.
Round two will run on Monday the 26th, round three on Friday the 30th, round 4 on Monday April 2nd, and the finals will take place on Saturday evening April 7th.
Now let’s take a look at the first round. Races 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15 are the stakes qualifiers.
Race 4 offers up a couple of streaking grade A greyhound that should be the one to punch battling it out for the win in this effort. Gs Jock has won back to back races and have took home both of those wins from off the pace. If he wants the hat-trick, he will have to catch red hot Lk’s Spicy Hot, who has won 4 of her last 6 efforts in grade A. If they both should up to run, this will be a battle. Don’t forget Jock’s sister Gs Casey on the outside. When she gets loose she is dangerous too, let’s throw M’s Free Mason in the mix as well. He might be in a slump now, but when he wants to run, he is one tough cookie. Picks (2-4-8-3)
Race 5 should be a fun race to watch as the only breaker, BB’s Alonzo, will most likely be in the early lead, but will he be able to hold off all of the late speed all the way to the finish line? I say, NO! GS Comet should be streaking late and it has helped him win 3 of his last 4 efforts. Lk’s Merrell is back at 550 for the stakes and is putting on his closing shoes as well. Last time out was an impressive late victory over All-American Gs Uncle Henry. Kiowa Jill Smile will throw her hat into the ring as well, especially from this rail post position. She loves it inside and has won two straight inside of the 4 box. With all of this effort, these guys and gals might have to be separated at the wire by a photo. Picks (6-4-2-5)
Watch out race 7, Vanessa Rousso is getting some really good cards of late at the Orange Park Kennel Club. In her last two races she has found the groove and won easily. Coming off a 10 length victory is a speedy 30.44 second romp, she is ready for the stakes challengers tonight. Not to be overlooked, Pat C Hold Out is coming off a big effort too, his career best in fact, but if he wants to repeat it, he needs to see the lead. That might be tough as returning stakes competitor, Snj Ginger, is back with a vengeance. She has reclaimed that patented break, and she has not missed the trifecta in 4 straight. All better be wary of the rail though as Penrose Jovial is lurking and waiting for them to make a mistake. He loves it in here and will use his late speed wisely. If he breaks, he will be a factor at the finish line. Picks (5-3-7-1)
Phenom time in race 10 as stakes veteran enters her second stakes in just her 22 career start. This little girl is as fast as she wants to be, and in the stretch, no one is better. She has gears the others only wish they had late, and to this day she has never missed the money over 550 yards. With 4 wins in 5 races, and 6 straight in the quiniela, this rockin girl is the one to beat. DQ’s other entry, Jeans Two Face, is back over 550 and will provide a closing threat for next best. Rc French Kiss might be the only early speeder here, well that is if she can find that break that has been eluding her recently, and don’t forget the former puppy stakes winner, Gs Uncle Harry. He always shows up big in the stakes, even when his lines don’t look the best. This rail post, makes him a threat. Picks 5-3-8-2)
Wave the flag in race 11 on the card as All-American GS Uncle Henry takes back to the racetrack to try for yet another stakes crown. The most recent winner of a sprint stakes, Henry knows how to get things done on the front end, but he is going to be in a crowded mess at the turn tonight. He must break fast if he wants to win his 52 career start, as Get It Birch, Gee Duble Oh Dee, and Kiowa Adara Art all will be vying for the lead and the win in this effort. Henry still has the edge with 4 wins in 6 races showing, and they are going to have to get to him early, as he will not surrender late to this field of early speed merchants. Forget the post, and go with the most, Gs Uncle Henry to win! Picks (5-7-2-4)
It’s nice to have everything going to you and that is just what Miss Kate is thinking in the 12th race on the card. She loves the rail, CHECK, she has a wide breaker next to her so she will get room early, CHECK, she has been breaking well, CHECK, and she is on a tear winning races. All of this makes a pretty impressive case for her to take home yet another win. Look for her to snap the lid, take early command, and give a determined effort for her 3rd straight victory. Making her work will be the solid A chaser Pat C Jackhammer. Jackhammer has been in the cash four straight and has enough late to hang around to the wire. Eric Clapton is coming into his won as of late and will factor in the hunt as well. Lk’s Ambitious might not be flashy, but she does find the money often. Look for more of the same in this effort. Picks (1-4-7-5)
Post plays a big role in the 14th race on the card. Kiowa Jill Vik gets the little red dress and that will be the difference maker in this effort. Forget the other lines, they matter not, she is in the 1 box and that is all she needs to chalk up another victory over the Orange Park oval. This double threat can break, or come from off the pace to get it done late. Watch of a big effort from her, but she will need to be on top of her game to get it done. Rising star Lk’s Instigator has talent beyond his years and what he lacks in experience, he more than makes up for with raw talent. He will be a big force in this effort and if he gets clear early, he will give Jill everything she can handle in this effort. Old vs. new, who you got? Broncs is a strong closer that is regaining his former self as of late. This good post aides his effort, and he will not give up until the wire. All might have to catch the best early speeder in the bunch though if they want to win. No doubt Thatsthewayiroll will come flying out of the box fast, but late she is short, short, short. Factoring to the stretch, if she wants to upset, she needs major help behind him. Picks (1-4-3-6)
Saving the best for last, Offthebrakedrake, will showcase his talents in race 15. If his previous races are any indication, Drake is the one to beat in this whole stakes. He had won 6 races in a row and 7 of his last 8, but what makes it more impressive is the matter in which he is winning them. By a ton of lengths, in almost track record times. He has flirted with the best ever mark in three of his last four starts, and missed it by a nose, .01 seconds, last time out with a clocking of 30.09 seconds. It’s only a matter of time before it falls, tonight could be a record setting performance. Flirting with him early will be Ww’s I Girl. She might flash her wink and smile from the box, but will be tossed to the side for the best of the rest title tonight. Closers Easi Mitchie and Braska Nymph will be coming on throughout, but it will be too little too late again. Drake is a man amongst boys and girls in this effort. Picks (6-4-5-7)
